MIRROR
With each step that I took the sky expanded before me. An ocean of robin’s egg blue caressed the soft white clouds. Each one was uniquely shaped, and every detail was intricately painted by Mother Nature herself. Even though the sun was high in the sky with its rays of warmth that caused me to squint my eyes, the crispness of the harsh landscape was all that I noticed. My brain, having been jolted awake, was absorbing the delicious views that some might refer to as “desolate.”

“Want to be happier? Stay in the moment." - Matt Killingsworth
When I first stumbled my way through the list of Ted Talk options I did not immediately gravitate to this particular one. I watched a handful of videos from the list but none of them sparked my interest enough to write an entire paper on. However, when I looked at the list one last time the title caught my eye. Within the first thirty seconds of Dr. Matt Killingsworth's lecture, I knew that this was the video that I had been waiting for and could invest my energy into a worthy response. Let’s not forget that the length of the video was only ten minutes, therefore, even more appealing.

RISING
Warmth could be sensed in just the slightest degree. It seeped slowly through rubble and muck. A nagging sensation tugged at a cloudy subconscious. Simultaneously, a physical urge to move overcame the smallest of atoms. A microscopic shift could be felt, and the smallest of pebbles moved to the side creating a ripple effect of energy. The feeling continued pulling with noticeable force. The heavy clouds shifted from misty charcoal to a subtle yellow and back again. A flash of warmth. Soft, dewy warmth.

Silence isn’t just a simple definition of “zero sound; no outright noise; or the moment before your child lets out the random scream that sends your heart irregularly palpitating for whatever reason… maybe it’s the PTSD, possibly just the generally skittish nature of the morphed group of cells, blood, bone, and hair that is holding your beautifully and intricately designed brain in its place?
