FIFA 23 Review
I've dabbled in critiquing FIFA, the videogame, before, but frankly John Oliver and Last Week Tonight critiqued FIFA, the real life organization, way better than I ever could all the way back in 2014. So don't let people tell you we haven't been bemoaning Qatar and their deplorable human rights record for 12 Years, we have and the entire world has ever since that depressing day in 2010 when they were awarded this tournament. In hindsight it's lucky we aren't hosting this one as this Golden Generation that will hopefully be the beginning of a new normal of competing at the highest level gets more time to prepare for 2026. But still there was absolutely no reason to cowtow to Putin and Russia with 2018, objectively FIFA should've picked England from the Football Perspective or cowtowing to Qatar with 2022 as they should've literally picked anyone else. The Pandemic even gave them a potential out screwing up the schedule as reassigning the tournament to Summer 2023 and Women's World Cup Hosts Australia & New Zealand would've been extremely practical and at least been admission of guilt and retribution. But I should move on to what we're actually here for, talking about the Videogame. Just felt like I couldn't talk about anything related to Qatar 2022 without it.

OU-Texas Week 2022
My Facebook Status is about to read: "Sorry in advance guys if we lose Red River, I broke down and broke unspoken tradition, I had What-A-Burger during OU-Texas Week. I rationalized it to myself by thinking we're basically supposed to lose this one going in with a Concussed Starting Quarterback and and Backup that didn't stick around at Pitt despite finally having Kenny Pickett out of his way. Plus Sonic sucks by comparison and Braum's doesn't serve lunch menu til 11 am."

American All-Star Game Grades
MLS All-Star Game: A- To be fair, Soccer is my favorite sport overall, so of course I'm biased towards our All-Star Game. But out of the 5 Major American Sports, (Soccer is basically passing/passed Baseball & Hockey, in my opinion. MLS's Attendance compares very favorably to both the MLB & NHL. And while there is much work to do with MLS Television Ratings, it is getting better all the time. MLS's recent agreement with Apple Tv for their next television deal will be critical.) It's also essentially an automatic rivalry game that gets played with that level of intensity because American & Mexican Soccer to both us and our rivals to the south do not do anything half-assed, and in the current format the MLS's best players squaring off with Liga Mx's (Mexico's top flight soccer league) best players. Easily out of the 5 it's the best all-star game in terms of stakes and intensity!!!

So...For Now I'm Staying
I've been struggling with Identity Crisis and a desire to leave for awhile now. But...as such things go, one can only hem and haw for so long. One can only metaphorically be Notre Dame for so long. Life the cold heartless bitch that she is...eventually forces you to pick or create a new side and declare you Conference Affiliation if you will. If you don't know who your family is and don't declare or create your own, you're always going to be lost and confused.

Sports Video Games and the Annual Release Model: is it Time for the Subscription Model instead?
Once upon 1999, I a wee, fresh naïve eyed lad got a special gift for my birthday: Madden 2000, "Football For a New Millennium!'. Back when Madden actually had John Madden on the Call, and in the Intro. Rest in Peace, John! In a perfect world I wish I could do for Soccer what you Accomplished for Football!! Sure it was the tale end of the 'polygon players' era right before graphics took leaps forward in the Early 2000s, but Madden 2000 might still be the most complete Madden Game as far as Features goes. A pretty complete Franchise Mode for the Time, Custom Playbooks, All-Time & Classic Teams, Tournament Mode, Create a Team with the best of Customization at the time, and I feel like there must be several things I'm forgetting. That's how awesome it was. The big plus in bad graphics is that they really had to sell their game, now Madden pretty much lives on Ultimate Team and being the only game with NFL Players. How did we get here??

Should I Stay, Or Should I Go??
I know, odd photo for this type of thing I suppose. But really, it's kinda just here to help me find a bit of a neutral-ish, objective mindset for this confession and evaluation. And rooting for our American USMNT & USWNT in International Soccer and my Green Bay Packers are two of my most treasured passions, so it does display a bit of backstory for you on my personality I would hope.

Manchester United: What to do with Paul Pogba??
Now that Lionel Messi's settled in Paris, and also because Messi's settled in Paris Pogba will be The Transfer Saga of the Winter unless United get the Contract done soon. PSG had been emerging as favorites to sign Pogba possibly in this Transfer Window as well before Messi became available. PSG would still obviously love to have both players, but after agreeing to Messi's Wages how prepared to take on Pogba are they?? Especially if United can command a Market Value Transfer Fee? They should be good for it, but managing to do so during this Transfer Window would probably prove very difficult after committing to Messi's Wages. Transfermarkt.us currently has him rated at $66,000,000, which while that would be a massive net loss, is somewhat understandable given he's 28 and only a few months away from possibly being available for free.
