Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Border Gavaskar Trophy(BGT) In 2004, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) started the Gavaskar Trophy with the support of the Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting and Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who the award was named after. The trophy was inaugurated at Mumbai Central railway station on 15th November 2004. The Border Gavaskar Trophy is a biennial cricket honour played between India and Pakistan in Test, ODI and T20I formats. It was donated by the Bombay Merchants Chamber of Commerce to the victorious team and is a silver replica of a mast mounted on a base in the shape of a cup with the winning team's name and date inscribed on it. Sunil Gavaskar was highly acclaimed for his accomplishments in cricket and was awarded the Padma Shri in 1981. In 2004, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) created the Gavaskar Trophy with the assistance of Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting and Indian sportsman Sunil Gavaskar. A ceremony was held at Mumbai Central railway station on 15 November 2004 to launch the award, which was named after the former Indian cricketer.
