Poirot Meets His Match
‘Observe, mon ami, if you please. I take the card and I place it so.’ His long-standing friend, Captain Hastings, looked on, mesmerised by the card trick. He had seen Poirot perform it three times in a row now but, somehow, he kept missing the sleight of hand that his brain told him was there. Scrooge receives a Christmas surprise
Scrooge receives a Shock Marley was dead – Scrooge had made sure of that; a swift thrust with the rusty knife that they had peeled potatoes with … straight to the heart. Poor Marley had looked at him; a strange look, wondering, questioning, until he had keeled over – dead! Quite dead. Oh yes. Scrooge had made sure of that. Meticulous, as always, he had taken the precaution of wearing the old butchers apron splattered with blood and those mouldy old gloves, ready to be thrust now into some grimy hole far from prying eyes. Just to be sure that he couldn't be implicated.
