Baharsh did his best to appear nonplussed as they made their way to the main meeting room of the compound, but he could feel all the eyes watching them. He cursed himself a third time for not halting prior to the gate and making the remaining distance, though slower, on foot. The woman would have been easy enough to hide, but there was no disguising a 2 sizes too big wolf, or it's disappearance into thin air after she dismounted. He didn't need to look behind him to know they had picked up an ever growing train of curious demons.
As you come to the top of the trail and the clearing comes into view you take a deep breath, marveling at the beauty of nature. It's been a long hike but this is your favorite spot to camp at so it was worth it. The lake sparkles in the midday sun and your mouth begins to water as you think about the fresh fish you will catch for dinner. As you make the descent to your campground area you can't help but feel at peace with the world. Something crackling under your foot brings you out of your reverie.
As the plates of food began to be distributed, the woman regarded the entire company and settled on Baharsh as she spoke. "We do not have much time before The General will have this entire area searched. We need to either plan our attack or our escape."
Baharsh stared up at the night sky, knowing he needed to go in and explain to his company what he had done and why. He knew they all had questions, and he knew he still didn't have the answers. He had replayed what happened over and over again, but could not come up with an explanation regarding his draw to the woman. He knew many powerful demon women, but the key word there was demon. He had no use for humans beyond tactical secrets, and he was a trusted leader in the High Commanders army. Why had he risked Reihnash's anger? Exasperated, he leaned against the cave opening and closed his eyes as his second in command approached him.
The woman brought her head back to the center and stood up. Baharsh could only imagine the pain she was in, but her unwillingness to show weakness was admirable. He waited as she gathered her thoughts, and was embarrassed when he realized he was holding his breath.
The full moons silvery light reflects off of the fresh snow, making the world outside glow in an almost eerie beauty. Ice crystals dance across the window like tiny fury trees. Glittery silver dust dances on the breeze as it makes its way to settle on the ground.
