Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Movie Review
In the far-reaching realms of the MCU, the Guardians of the Galaxy went from being a relatively unknown group to super-stardom in 2014. Their popularity has grown exponentially over the last nine years as they joined forces with other superheroes. The third volume has been a long time coming and it delivers a poignant final bow.

The Mandalorian Series Review (Season 3)
The Mandalorian kick-started a new frontier for Star Wars media when it launched in 2019, utilising the smaller screen to create episodic stories that stood outside of the mainline films. After an extended break and some sideshows, the jet-packing hero has returned to take back his home planet. Anyone who got into previous seasons will enjoy this third season, but the action is held back by an unbalanced plot.

John Wick: Chapter 4 Movie Review
Since 2014, the John Wick franchise has climbed to the top of the action genre with some of the best fight choreography and set pieces in modern filmmaking. Blending martial arts, gunplay and a sleek presentation, it quickly overtook many of its competitors. After nine years in the game, the mainline story comes to a close with John Wick: Chapter 4. Like all the films before it, this is one thrill ride that never lets up.

Fall Movie Review
The sense of danger when making isolated thrillers is crucial to success with many productions taking a simple approach. After a relatively small theatrical release in the US, Fall has arrived on Netflix; for a film of small size and scale, it makes a solid impression on the viewer.

Creed III Movie Review
Since it first hit the masses in 2015, the Creed franchise has picked up the torch and delivered a great follow-up to an iconic set of films. Without Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky and only passing remarks to films past, is Creed III able to stand on its own two feet? Just like the star at its centre, this entry is always up to the challenge.

The Fabelmans Movie Review
Few film auteurs are as well known or highly regarded as Steven Spielberg; for decades he has taken on productions from almost every genre. For his most personal release to date, Spielberg has put together a meaningful drama, one that combines a family’s evolving dynamic with a love letter to film.

Tár Movie Review
Director Todd Field has a wealth of experience, having acted in many films before transitioning to directing in recent years. His major projects are few and far between, often taking time to come to fruition. With the leading role for his latest written directly for Cate Blanchett, we have an entire production resting on the shoulders of a single performer. Luckily for film-goers, Tár is a superb story from start to finish and a film that delivers far more than a powerful music-filled flourish.

The Pale Blue Eye
Taking advantage of a slower, more thoughtful pace can add a great amount of depth to murder mysteries; the latest entry from the genre is The Pale Blue Eye, a historical piece with ties in with a major American writer. Not every element fits into the puzzle perfectly, but it does offer an interesting tale.

Avatar: The Way of Water Movie Review
At the close of the 2010s, James Cameron’s Avatar delivered a substantial leap forward for high-end blockbusters. After thirteen years in the making, Avatar: The Way of Water has been biding its time, waiting for its biggest competitors to end or fizzle out. For the most part, the return of the highest grossing film in history has been worth the wait.

Pinocchio Movie Review
Since his creation in the late 1800s, the wooden figurine who dreams of being a real boy has starred in many highly recognisable stories. Many adaptations, especially the Disney version from 1940, set the blueprint for how the tale played out. In 2022, a modern version of Pinocchio accomplishes what many of its contemporaries missed; imbuing every component with a great sense of pathos.

The Swimmers Movie Review
The plight of refugees and displaced citizens is a difficult global challenge, one that persists through many modern conflicts. One perspective that stands out among the millions is Yusra Mardini, a Syrian who crossed the Aegean Sea and eventually competed in the Olympics Refugee Team. Directed by Sally El Hosaini, The Swimmers tells her story while conveying the plight of displacement in the process.
