The Potential Risks of Detox Products
Browsing through social media, I have noticed an increase in diet supplements that are labeled as “detox” products. From detox teas, to pills, to powders, the idea of a quick solution to lose weight and become healthy is extremely appealing for many people. The images of fit, healthy-looking men and women in workout gear make these products look even more appealing because they present the potential consumer with an image of what they could potentially look like if they use their product.

Medieval Plague Masks
Being in the middle of the Covid-19 outbreak, it is interesting to think about how societies in the past dealt with pandemics that they were faced with. Many of the approaches societies used were relatively useless, or, in some cases, did more harm than good. The toxic element mercury was commonly used in treatments for skin disorders and syphilis and bloodletting are examples of these. Religion was often commonly used. Considering that, for most of human history, people were unaware of the presence of bacteria, viruses, and other microscopic pathogens, it becomes less surprising that many of the theories of disease were extremely incorrect. However, even though physicians in the past may not have known of the presence of microorganisms, they had managed to accidentally come up with a way to protect themselves from the potentially fatal creatures, and what they created was, in many ways, genius.

The Side Effects of Ingesting Caffeine
Waking up in the morning can be a challenge for many people. If it wasn’t for the glorious gift of coffee, many of these people would be nearly unable to function. People spend hundreds of dollars each year on their daily cup of Joe. Even during the day, it seems that the American public is nearly dependent on coffee. Why is coffee such an essential part of life?

Anime Review: 'Black Clover'
Not long ago, I decided to dive head first into yet another anime series. Probably not the best idea considering that I was in the middle of multiple already at the time, but, after a little bit of convincing by my roommate, I decided that I would try watching it.

Six Ways to Save Money
As a college junior who is beginning to look ahead towards becoming a full-fledged adult, the need for money has greatly increased for me. I will have thousands of dollars of graduate school to pay for, not to mention the need for my own apartment and my own supplies of food. Any spare penny that I receive goes directly into my savings account, and any extra shifts that open up at my job end up on my schedule.

Technology's Impact on Younger Generations
With each passing generation, the generation before will often judge the generations after them for their differences. While, for many years, there weren’t many differences between generations, with increased technological advancement, generations are becoming much different than those before them.

Why Guinea Pigs Make Fantastic Pets
When planning to get a pet, many people only think about getting either a dog or a cat. These animals are great but have a large amount of baggage that comes with them. They require a large amount of space, which needs to be maintained by the owner. They need to be trained and can wreak havoc on the home if not trained properly. They also require more time spent on them, and can even be potentially dangerous depending on the animal’s early life and natural levels of aggression. People who aren’t prepared for this are likely not to keep the animal, leading to these animals being left in shelters to wait to hopefully be re-adopted, or potentially end up being euthanized by the shelter.

6 Unknown and Uncommon Signs of Depression and Anxiety
When discussing mental illness, it is easy to think of the ones commonly spoken about, depression and anxiety being two of the most talked about, since these two disorders affect as many people as they do. However, less common symptoms are often ignored by society, more so than the more common symptoms. When they aren’t ignored, these symptoms are generally looked down upon by the majority of people, even though most of these problems have a clear solution. I am going to share with you a few of these symptoms that are commonly ignored by society, and why it is important to stop ignoring them, for the sake of the sufferer.

The Low Carb Diet
Whether it’s chocolate, potato chips, McDonald’s french fries, or any other unhealthy treat, most of us can admit that there is some sort of unhealthy food that they probably enjoy just a little too often. That’s okay! There is nothing wrong with enjoying the foods that are out there. The problem arises when these indulgences affect a person’s everyday life. This could mean waking up to a faceful of acne, feeling lethargic at times when the person normally wouldn’t feel this way, or, the experience most people dread happening to them, gaining weight.

The Room at the End of the Hall
Not to far away from me, off the side of a busy road, there has always been a building that stuck out in comparison to all of the others. Surrounded by contemporary buildings is a single house-like structure made of stone. It looks like something out of an old movie or a painting. When I was a small child, I was always curious about this building, but the sign outside of it changed from time to time, and, because I wasn’t able to read and I never wanted to distract my parents from paying attention to the road in front of them, I never asked.

Marching Band
In high school, joining the marching band was one of the best decisions I made. I made many amazing friends through the organization that I likely would have never met if I hadn’t joined when I did, and the experiences I received that I wouldn’t have if I hadn’t joined Marching band taught me so much that I would never have learned if I hadn’t decided to join. The hours of practice under the hot summer sun, in the cold rain, and in the freezing wind were enough to create a bond among the band that would have been hard to come by elsewhere. The strict schedule of marching band taught me responsibility and helped me learn to manage my priorities, and the ability to perform in front of large crowds weekly helped me grow more comfortable around people. Marching band positively impacted my teenage years more than most other aspects of my life.

Pets in College
When buying a dog, most people don’t immediately think of the potential future expenses that are likely to occur once the dog reaches old age. In the beginning, all people think about is the dog in its prime, healthy stage. If the dog was able to stay this way throughout its life, owning them would be perfect, but sadly, that’s not the case.
