Netflix Heartstopper vs. Comic Heartstopper
As someone who has read through the Heartstopper comic more than a couple of times, I was beyond excited to hear there would be a Netflix adaptation. Well, excited and a bit trepidatious. Because we all know not all Netflix adaptations are created equal and I wanted this precious story to be represented well. I don’t know if you’ve heard all the hype (if you’re reading this, you’re probably sorting through the hype), but the show has done amazingly well in its first week of release! Which I am so excited about! So I wanted to talk about the show and some of the key differences from the comic for those who are worried it might deviate too much and are wondering if they want to give it a try.

How Does Your Favorite BL Stack Up?
Are you new to BL? Have you seen a few and are interested in more, but don’t know where to look or what you might like? Well I took 12 BL anime that I could find recommended and gave them a watch and have broken down my reviews into 5 separate categories: overall cuteness, problematic relationships, sexiness, romance, and non-romantic plot. You’ll notice the categories might overlap a bit, but I found that each were different in some way in most of the anime.

5 Wholesome Romance Anime
Romance means different things to different people and there are a myriad of romantic anime to reflect just that. Some love the drama that inevitably comes from romance while others enjoy watching for good feels. Lately life has been a little rough on my end so I decided to binge a bunch of romance in order to find ones that I can go to for endless good feels and cuteness. The goal was to find anime where you could enjoy the romance and growing feelings without too much worrying about whether they will get together or stay together. Please enjoy this list I’ve come up with for when you’re in a similar head space:

How to Keep that New Year's Resolution
It’s that time of year when people start to decide what they want this next year to look like and how to make that happen. Do they want it to be a healthier year? A happier year? The year they’re finally going to learn German so they can take the dream trip they’ve always wanted? We make resolutions for our new year, and are often notoriously bad about keeping them. Do you want some help? I’ve got four simple steps (with some bonus material) to making and keeping your New Year's resolutions. Though it doesn’t have to be New Year specific. These steps will help you whether you turn over your new leaf in January or August:

Adelaide's Gold
Adelaide ran through her backyard, laughing in half panic and half excitement at avoiding her mother’s call from inside their home. The clouds hadn’t fully cleared from the earlier rain, but the sunlight that peeked through turned the five year old’s hair a flaming red as she sprinted towards the trees clustered at the back of the property. Her white dress – the one her mother specifically asked her not to wear that morning because of the mud that would inevitably stain it – billowed behind her as her feet grew slick and mud stuck between her toes.

Four Low-Key Anime For Times You Just Want Anime and Chill
Have you ever been having a calm day and decided to turn on some anime, just to realize that everything you tried was either too exciting or too dramatic? Even if it’s really good, sometimes the popular action or romance-packed anime is just not what we’re looking for, especially if we’re just trying to have a chill day at home. Ghibli movies are always a solid go-to for these days, but sometimes you want something new without the energy blowing you away. If you’ve been in this predicament before, then I’ve got some anime for you! Tried and tested by yours truly to ensure calm pacing and tranquil energy. I’m not saying nothing happens - these are all anime that kept me watching - but it all happens in such a way that you don’t jump in your seat or get slapped in the face with explosions or giant misunderstandings.

If you liked Yuri!!! On Ice, Then Check Out Blades of Furry
I’ve heard that Webtoons have become a lot more popular. In fact, Hot Topic has actually started carrying merch from one of my favorite Webtoons (Lore Olympus, for those who are curious), and yet I didn’t hear about them until last year, when the shut down brought all sorts of new opportunities (re: desperation) to find new ways to entertain myself. Since then I’ve grown to love them as much as I love anime (what fresh blasphemy is this, I know), especially since you can easily binge from your phone wherever you are! I realize you can technically binge anime on your phone, too, but you can be way sneakier reading a Webtoon than when you’re watching a show.

Death Meets Life
“Mother, why do they fear us?” Thos asked, watching dejectedly as the fawn scampered away. All he had wanted was to pet it, but its eyes had widened in fright and it had run as fast as its unsteady legs would carry it back in the direction of its family.

If You Liked Kamisama Kiss, Then Take a Trip to Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits
The pandemic was a veritable breeding ground of many things, new anime fans included. I’m not saying I’m glad it happened, but I will never complain about having more people to geek out with. And it’s undeniable: the lockdown forced many media consumers to turn to genres outside their norm in order to find entertainment. Many fans of romance found that anime wasn’t, in fact, just a bunch of buff dudes screaming at each other and becoming friends after punching each other in the face. I mean, those shows definitely exist, but there are so many others, including laughter inducing, tear-jerking, drama filled romances.
