What Are We Doing Wrong?
We the People—Three simple words that define one of the world's strongest countries. We the People, are the forgotten "4th" branch of government, and hold the power to make our young country succeed or fail. However, in light of recent events, it appears that our government is failing. Everywhere you turn, Americans have more than enough complaints to go around. We the People are not happy with the state of our country. We point fingers at the President, the Supreme Court, and Congress. Those are our three branches of government, so obviously the problems are stemming from at least one of them, right? But what about us. What about the power we hold. Have we forgotten that almost every political figure gets their power from us, because they are elected?

A Young Experiment Failing Too Soon
When thinking of America, many ideals come to mind. Freedom, independence, liberty, and democracy prove as the standout values that the country holds dear. Just as any other country, a deep history holds the key to understanding how those ideals came to be. The past is a book of learning lessons, and if the lessons aren’t learned, history repeats itself. Upholding democracy stands as an international challenge, and although still young, America appears as the role model. However, the American democracy has been dwindling. The struggling democracy of America should be blamed on the American people, because Americans buy into partisan politics, create evils like that of superdelegates, fail to correct the short-comings of the executive branch, and fail to fulfill basic citizen duties.

Since my first days in the pageant world, I've often been asked by several people, "What is the difference between Miss USA and Miss America?" In the modern world, the two tend to run together more than ever before. Having competed in both systems, the major differences became very clear to me this past week.
