MY STORY ABOUT DOGS
Dogs bring so much joy and happiness to our lives. They are part of our family. They are so therapeutic. As a lonely teenager growing up in the mid-nineties, I longed for a dog companion. Due to my dyspraxia, I felt strongly that a dog would be ideal to overcome some of the problems I was facing. In 1993, I was diagnosed with dyspraxia. At school, I struggled to make friends and was often misunderstood. Dogs made me calmer. It was a great diversion from the problems I faced at the time. I felt dogs could understand and connect better with me whilst I interacted with them directly.

MY CREATIVITY
THE PANDEMIC The global pandemic started in March 2020. I watched the news and felt increasingly worried about what was happening. I struggled to digest the situation. Life was going to change direction, causing disruptions to many sectors. I had to cancel my weekend trip to Birmingham watching a concert and touring the city seeing the Cadbury Factory and having a curry. Me and wife looked forward to the trip. It was a disappointment we could not go. Given the severity of the situation, it was not worth the risk taking the trip. There have been reports in high infection rates, hospital admissions and even deaths.

A childhood dream fulfilled
For so many years, I was longing for a canine companion, but never fulfilled. I am feeling joyed having my first pet dog after long years waiting. For a dyspraxic person like myself, it is a great feeling. Special need individuals show an excellent connection to dogs. I experienced a difficult school and college life. My work life was not the best, as I got bullied and misunderstood. I never settled in a workplace .

The challenges of being dyspraxic
Before embarking on the story, I will give you a definition of dyspraxia. Dyspraxia is a form of disability that can affect activities that require movements and co-ordination. For example, holding a brush, writing, and contact sports. It can have an impact on your immune system, mental health, social skills, perception, organisation and planning skills, processing information, short term memory. and much more. Dyspraxia individuals can do tasks, but need more time and support to do it. The condition is misunderstood. There is lack of awareness and recognition about the condition.
