Love, Grandad
Nick adjusted the collar of his shirt. He cinched his tie a little too tight. In fairness, the black and white ensemble he wore that day was unusual to him. Scanning the pews of the humble St. Lawrence Chapel, he could see the other mourners were shifting and fidgeting, as well. Nick stood at the front of the church near the casket with the rest of his immediate family. Friends, neighbors, and distant relatives of his late grandfather lined up to pay their final respects. One by one, solemn faces offered condolences until the last person was through. After the service, Nick and the other pallbearers hoisted the coffin into the hearse that was parked outside.

Material Risk
It was misting when Lee stepped out of the small yellow cab. The asphalt was emitting steam from the heat of the evening. Pedestrians rubbed shoulders as they navigated the narrow street with all it’s cart vendors and mopeds buzzing by. Lee’s consulting practice had taken him to many far-out stretches of the globe, but the southeast Asian countries always stood out as the most unique. He found himself in Thailand this time on a typical client request.

The Gentle Art
Do you ever come home from work and feel like you’ve just spent all day in a blender? We’re constantly creating technology to make our lives easier, but we tend to use it to complicate our routines even more. I like to combat this encroachment of chaos by immersing myself fully in some other endeavor. But a mere distraction from the mundane will not do, no sir. In my hobbies I look for activities that amplify all the best qualities of the human experience. I want to enrich my life, not pass the time. The worthiest undertakings to me engage the body physically, challenge the brain mentally and develop the character morally. I have found all these virtues and more through the practice of Jiu-Jitsu.
