The Stranger
The train jostled and clattered as it raced over the uneven tracks, a loud short whistle breaking the silence in the car. James startled and bolted upright into a sitting position. When the short whistle was followed by a longer, drawn-out blow, the deafening sound made him reflexively cover his ears with his hands. The noise was so loud. He squeezed his eyes tight and held his head waiting for the screech to dissipate in the wind that carried it.

Heartbreak
A poet I am not, but when you walked into the room, my knees buckled. Thankfully a chair was nearby, or I'd have surely fallen. You were incredible. All I ever wanted in a man. Tall, strong, and handsome. What more could one ask for? A Viking warrior come to life. My pulse quickened, my ears hummed.

Removing LabelsRunner-Up in We Have a Dream Challenge
As a society, America is too focused on labels. For some reason, we constantly find the need to classify ourselves and others into neat little categories. We like to strip one another of what makes us unique and instead look for a common denominator, as if we are numbers rather than people. We classify ourselves and others by race, religion, sexual orientation, income, political party, ethnicity… The list goes on and on.
