Whether a person wants to admit it or not, the actions and decisions a person makes are often based on their past experiences and traumas. When a reader applies the past experiences of a character to the actions that they make, they are using psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis is described as “a particular kind of reading, and one that is often intensely personal... the ultimate test of validity remains the intuition of the reader: does the analysis feel like it makes sense?” (Carpenter 67-68).
Scarlett slowly pulled the mascara wand through her eyelashes. She was careful not to get any of the makeup on her skin and to not leave any clumps. She meticulously repeated the process on her other eye before examining her reflection to make sure that the amount of mascara was even on both eyes.
I have an autoimmune disease called Mastocytosis. It’s one of those rare, hard to diagnose and even harder to diagnose, diseases. Basically, it is caused my body having too many mast cells, which have to do with allergies and so on. A case of too much of a good thing being a bad thing. Literally, the only way to treat it would be chemotherapy to get rid of the mast cells, but my hematologist/oncologist thinks that chemotherapy would ruin my life (or at the very least be a bad option) considering that I am only twenty.
The question of whether Congress is representative is one that most Americans don’t think twice about. After all, Congress filled with its Congressmen and Senators was designed to be representative of the people in their districts and states. The fact of the matter is that there are other motivations behind the actions Congress takes. While they might want to represent the people, they also represent their own interests, as well as the interests of their sponsors. In addition, Congress as a whole does not accurately represent the demographics of the people. So while members of Congress may take actions to ensure that they are reelected, I do not believe that they represent the people to the best of their ability or accurately.
