Summer Tastes Like Rhubarb
While living in the tropics, I hunted for what summer flavour I had missed. It did not take long to realize what it was; I was craving the sour-sweet-tart taste of rhubarb. I remember trying substitutes to feed some of that summer craving, passionfruit got close, but nothing tasted like summer. I am in love with the strange, stocky plant. Rhubarb is visually a unique addition to landscaping and flower gardens, with stocks varying from red to pink or spackled to green. While wide varieties are eatable, some are decorative and can be highly toxic, and the leaves are poisonous (but still have some great uses).

Seventeen with a Sewing Machine
I worked at a department store in those odd transition years between the end of high school and actually deciding what I wanted to do. It was in a small city in their ancient mall, just close enough to the real city to entitle those who shopped here to puff up like a turkey over it, “That might look nice, but I shopped locally. Posh.”

Conjurations of the Pen
There were not always dragons in the Valley. But then Callum took up his pen. “Oh, Callum, no!” Margo, his older sister, rushed over to the table where he sat, looking over his shoulder and then sighing with flamboyant disappointment. Her head dropped, so her forehead touched his shoulder. “Cal … I just finished that one.”

Black Dragon Conqueror
There were not always dragons in the Valley. In fact, just yesterday, it was empty except for woodland-prairie creatures like bunnies and deer. Now, however, the deer had evacuated, and the bunnies hid. The black dragons have been gathered here.
