Celebration of Life
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. That final shriek of terror where the universe hears nothing. Like life has been some grand movie, then right at the climax you press mute, because the second you see what’s happened you’ve already moved on, ready for what’s next.

Under the Oak Tree
People say there’s a precise moment when a child is no longer a child. For Jackson, that was when he realized his parents were going to get a divorce. Jackson wasn’t old enough to drive but was no longer young enough to think the world was a perfect, happy place. He was in high school; his first year.

Pillion
James Grinton was one of the smartest kids I knew. He knew how to handle people and how to get things done. If he wanted something, you could be sure that he’d get it. This included the hardest scholarships and acceptance into the most elite universities. He was focused, and he had a good future ahead of him. That isn’t to say that he didn’t do a lot of stupid shit. Especially when fun was involved, or when others were watching. Still, if you asked me at the time, I never would have told you I thought his life was going to be over before he graduated.

Out Into the Real World!
“I’m moving out!” Allan declares. The idea is spontaneous, yet his voice possesses an utmost determination. Allan graduated high school not more than an hour ago, and he had just gotten home. He stands on the driveway with both his parents under the front yard pear tree. The three had yet to step inside.

You and I Aren't so Different
Sam and Ben stick their thumbs up. They’re not happy about anything, only tired. It’s been a long couple of months on the road. They stand on the highway’s shoulder, burdened with all their possessions stuffed into backpacks. They wait for a driver. They have no money.

The Final Frontier for Old Growth
With the breeze blowing against his face, Danny is at peace. He’s isolated from civilization and among the last of the old growth trees. While waiting, he inspects the bark of the yellow cedar he stands behind. This goddess is nearly four hundred years old. Danny toys with the thought yet has no true grasp of how long that is. He peels off her bark playfully, trying to get a longer strip with each try. Finally, his supervisor breaks him from his daydreams.

The Witch, the Light Keeper
Looking through the small window at the base of the lighthouse, Abigail dreamed of a life she could never live. She spent each day watching whatever moved: the comforting rise and crash of waves on the rocks, migrations of birds, or ships on the horizon. Abigail always wondered what life would be like aboard a ship, only when she saw one she knew it would soon be gone.

The Magic of the Collage
Taking photos is something I’ve come to do in my everyday life. The camera is a part of me and the photos are an extension of my thoughts and ideas. The use of collage however is ultimately what has led to some of my most compelling images. My individual shots often feel incomplete, being part of a bigger whole, something I can bring out in a collage. Whether it’s all from the same roll of film or an intentional project, I’ve created several collages in the last two years which have become some of my favourite projects to date. I’ll go through some of my favourite examples, describing the process and how I bring these ideas to life through editing.

Fake Friends in the Yacht Club
Sunshine on the open sea. Then a parade of yachts, roaring over the horizon. These are billionaires, members of the local yacht club. Then there is Jimmy. Jimmy is not a billionaire. Only today, he’s assistant captain of a yacht, shadowing a member named Richard. The club had teamed up with a local game show to award a prize to a lucky winner. Jimmy had won. Now he gets to spend the day with them. It meant more to him than the average Joe. He dreamed of driving sports cars, of flying in private jets, of being part of a yacht club. Only, his reality was different. He takes public transit, struggles to pay rent, and works as a food prep in a pizza restaurant. At least I’m not a dishwasher, Jimmy always told himself.
