Batair and Mira: A Love Story
Widespread disease, misuse of environmental resources, and corruption in government spending that led to bankruptcy and loss of medical and other services had threatened the survival of the human race. People were dying by the millions. Every available plot of land was used to bury bodies. Some died from exposure to bacteria, bloodborne viruses, and gastrointestinal infections transmitted during the handling of so many corpses. Many others just committed suicide because they could no longer deal with so much death.

Go Ahead ... Go For It!
Melody! Melody!! Melody!!!! My mother’s impatient voice finally broke through, pulling my attention from my personal game of I Spy. For as long as I can remember, my eyes seem to be constantly drawn to random things in the world around me. Now at fifteen years old, it has become a part of my everyday life.

Joya
The vibrant colors of the marigolds draping over her coffin drew my attention as I walked into the funeral parlor. The bright golds and reds and oranges and red oranges were a burst of color ... like the sun had decided to stop by to honor the life of my friend ... and she deserved it. I stuttered to a stop inside the doorway. Such was the impact of that bright and beautiful display. At that moment I felt a deep appreciation for the person who chose those flowers because they were symbolic of the life of Joya.

The Sanctuary
The Sanctuary Ever since Bessie got caught in that thunderstorm two years ago she’s been able not only to understand what her bovine family is communicating but also the humans. It was a terrible night. Her family had spent all day grazing on the human’s 10-acre farm. But they never strayed too far from the homestead, and besides, the humans would ride out on horseback to lead them back to the barn, especially if the weather looked bad.

Adira's Heart
Adira’s Heart Adira rode her vintage vesper as fast as she could toward her house to bring her family the news. She had been in the town center to purchase items for her mother and heard about the ruling. Adira’s dreadlocked braids were flying in the wind like a banner advertising her urgency to get back to her home on the outskirts of Legacy, a town about 50 miles from the city of Anarch.

Good Writing Is Beautiful
I edit other people’s writing through my LLC, Vision Heirs Publishing and Consulting. I love editing because I love well-written sentences ... well-written pieces of work. I will often describe a well-written page as beautiful because it literally is beautiful to me. On the other hand, when I am reading a book or article, my eye tends to go to any errors in the writing, and it disturbs me. A little strange? I guess. But maybe not for a person who genuinely loves good writing.
