The Heart of Mor
Chapter One It started like any other day, overcast and pouring, the cobblestone dark from the rain. He was walking his usual route towards the precinct, the hood of his cloak pulled up to keep the rain out of his eyes. The walk from the first ring to the third is a long one, so he must start at five in the morning to make it to work at seven. He would normally use public transport but all public teleportation stations in all five rings were down for maintenance the entire month, though he can see that the out-of-order signs on some of the transport pads have been blown off. It wasn’t too long before he made it to the entrance of the second ring, flashing his badge at the checkpoint.

Automonecsis
“Automonecsis.” The teacher stood in front of the chalkboard with the word spelled out in large letters. “Is a disease that can infect any living thing, from plants to people. It is a self-generating, self-propelling death to the cells and it is, so far, one of the most difficult diseases to cure.” He turned to face the class he was teaching and pointed at a girl who didn’t seem to be paying attention.

Not My Mother's Coven
“Success will come with motivation, planning, and determination. Setting forth with heart and soul, I know I will achieve my goal." A young woman sat in a circle of people in a wooded area and places a folded piece of paper beneath a stone and repeated these words until she felt she could stop, hoping that her goals could be reached.

Love and Fangs
Prologue Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. It was a beautiful sight, away from the pollution of city lights. One can see the sky filled with stars; the two moons, Soma and Indu, shining brightly on the world of Madira. A house can be seen in the middle of a field of glowing white flowers. The small glowing birds can be seen flying among them.

The Phoenix and The Dragon
The night was peaceful and quiet before it was shattered by a piercing wail, waking all the animals nearby with a start. As the wailing continued, one animal in particular grew annoyed and let out a roar that shook the canopy. All fell silent and just as he was about to fall back to sleep, the wailing began anew and, somehow, it got louder. With a growl of disdain, he lumbered to his feet and left to investigate what was all the ruckus. It didn’t take very long to find the source of the crying, though it was unexpected.

Altaleita
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. I press my forehead against the glass and stare out into the vast emptiness of space. It’s been maybe ten minutes since we’ve left Earth’s surface and I already want to go back. My dad got promoted to their dream job and now the whole family has to pick up and leave everything behind. My home, my school, my friends, …my boyfriend.

The Rising Dragon
Prologue There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. The history books all say that before the dragons came the world was in constant chaos, full of war and strife. Then, magic was discovered to be more fact than fiction by the worst sort of people and an already chaotic world began its slow descent into madness. It was a discovery kept secret at first by those in power who sought to use and abuse this new ‘resource’. A secret can only stay a secret for so long and, soon enough, the existence of magic became public knowledge.

Gifts From Destiny
The packages started arriving the day after I turned thirteen. The first package was a small brown paper box tied with a string the size of my hand. It was just sitting in our mailbox, and it was the first piece of mail that was addressed to me that I ever received. At first my parents were suspicious because there was no return address, but after opening it and checking the contents, they relaxed and gave it back. Inside was a key chain of an atom, of course I didn’t know at the time, I just thought it was cool.

Death By Chocolate
A slice of chocolate cake…chocolate fucking cake. I’m fatally allergic to chocolate! We’ve been together for eight years, married for five of those years, and he still gave me chocolate cake for my birthday! Not only that, but it’s leftovers from his “business meeting” with his latest secretary. I thought it was a dream when we got married, he was the love of my life and I thought he felt the same, but not even a year later he started having affairs with numerous women and showed a bare minimum acknowledgement of me or our marriage.

The Locket
I stare at it as I sat in the back of the truck with my squad waiting for our arrival. I rub my fingers over the smooth, heart shaped surface and wonder why I held on to the damned thing. It was a simple necklace, the silver paint was chipping off from wear and the locket that hung off it was empty, it was nothing special. A cheap gift from my ex, which they obviously didn’t put any effort into. In fact, they gave it to me unwrapped and tossed it instead of handing it to me…the ass. Not even an hour later I caught them in the act with my best friend.
