Home town and healing hearts
Julia’s car eased over the hill on the outback highway. She could see the chimney stack on the horizon, the sun setting behind it. Tears came to her eyes, the sun stinging them, and memories that she had pushed aside for years came tumbling into her mind as she headed home to the mining town of Mount Isa in north west Queensland.

The light went green and I put my foot down. The car didn’t react instantly making my heart stop in panic before it squatted in the back and pushed me into the seat. My head tilted forward in concentration and for those few seconds the car and I were one being.

The light in the field
"Quick! Run!" Ricky yelled grabbing my hand and hauling me towards the old barn. We had been walking and chatting quietly through the farm with the sun setting behind us. We checked on the animals and closed pens and gates each evening while talking about our day.
