The Story of GAZA
Gaza was formerly a part of what is now known as Historic Palestine, before the creation of Israel. The region was first ruled by the Ottoman Empire and then by the British. The British split Palestine into an Arab and Jewish state in 1947 as they were preparing to leave. To create the state of Israel, Zionist militias and armies soon started driving hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their country. This little area of territory, subsequently to be known as the Gaza Strip, was the refuge for a large number of Palestinians who had been internally displaced. These people were driven from their cities and villages, which is how they became refugees. Some of them now reside a mile from their former towns and villages. Many others had no choice but to escape to nearby Arab nations, where they were overrun and rebelled in favor of the Palestinian Arabs against the newly formed state of Israel.
