On Friday, October 13, 2023, at 10:19 a.m. EDT, NASA's Psyche spacecraft launches from Florida's iconic Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Centre aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket. The same-named, metal-rich asteroid, which is part of the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, will be the subject of research by the Psyche mission. First mission by NASA to investigate an asteroid with more metal than rock or ice. NASA's Deep Space Optical Communications (DSOC) project, which will be the first test of laser communications beyond the Moon, is an innovative technology demonstration known as Riding with Psyche.
