The Revival of Turn-Based Strategy: 'The Battle of Polytopia'
Anyone who is even mildly interested in PC gaming will have heard the name Sid Meier. A pioneer of turn-based strategy, his Civilisation series will forever be the catalyst of nostalgia for gamers all over the world. But while it's great for us to look back on these games with a fondness, there have been little, if any, releases that match Civilisation's calibre. And that's not for want of developers trying. There have been so, so many games that have tried to be the next big turn based strategy, but we all have to admit the playing field has been a bit dry. A Job Within a Job: 'Game Dev Tycoon'
I would be lying if I said my dream job isn’t to be working with or on games. It’s probably pretty obvious– I play them as often as I can and write about them in the spaces between. However, many of the technical roles when working on a game require vasts amounts of mathematical & design skill, as well as a penchant for coding; something of which I am hilariously lacking. Something that I have really noticed recently, however, is that games aren’t offering enough to consumers anymore; we are actively seeking new engagement and unique rewarding experiences from our games and a worrying amount aren’t stepping up to the challenge.

A Nod to Nostalgia: 'Pokèmon Quest'
If you were to ask me to embody my childhood nostalgia, 90 percent of it would be in the form of some kind of Pokémon game. I wouldn't even like to estimate the amount of time I have poured into the Pokémon series (something that I know many of you will empathise with). From the original Pokemon Red/Blue Gameboy Colour games, all the way through to Pokémon Go and everything in between, rarely have I been disappointed with a Pokémon game... (Okay, I may have had reservations about Pokémon Go's longevity, but I hear it still has a solid fan base behind it!). So I was fairly confident that I was going to enjoy The Pokémon Company's latest release—Pokémon Quest.
