The Amniotic Lens of Time
Momentarily blind, he squints at the sunlight streaming in through the open door of the smoky bar, lifts the half-filled glass of beer to his lips and drains it. His thoughts muddled from the beer and the hundreds of memories he tries to drown. But tonight, the memories refuse to leave.

BANG! Tires squeal as my Mom jerks the steering wheel of our Ford pick-up, left and right. I flop around in my seat like a ragdoll, the seatbelt doing little to hold me in place as the vehicle comes to a stop. I blink and push myself upright as my head throbs and my knee aches. Writing Fanfic Saved My LifeTop Story - September 2023
When I was a very young girl, I lived in a world built inside my head. My external world was a very scary place. My father drank a lot. And when he drank, he got loud and sometimes… he got violent. It was a lot to take in as a child. My internal world often included myself and the characters from a tv show or movie I recently watched. Mostly, it was Bonanza. I loved and still love that show and I wanted Adam Cartwright to be my dad.
