"To be silent is to side with the oppressor"
On the 25th of May 2020, George Floyd was murdered by Derek Chauvin who was a Minneapolis police officer at the time. Chauvin has since been fired from his occupation and has officially been charged with third degree murder and manslaughter. Since the horrific events that occurred on the 25th, millions of people have come together to raise awareness of the continuation of police brutality and racial injustice towards black people in America. The Black Lives Matter movement has been prevalent on the streets of Minneapolis, many other cities in America, as well as on social media. Floyd's death has caused anger, grief, and general uproar to rise up from America, as well as other countries such as England.

Why black consumers are boycotting TikTok
Who would have thought that in the year 2020, black people would still be targeted to the point of boycotting an entertainment platform. If you are yet to catch up on...whatever the hell is happening on TikTok, then let me fill you in. Over the past few months (and probably even before that), there has been outrage over TikTok's incapability to monitor racism. There has been countless amounts of videos circulating that depict racial stereotypes, slurs, and just general blatant racism.

The destruction of cultural identity in the UK
Cultural assimilation can be described as the process by which ethnic minorities and cultures assume the values of the dominant group in society. As an African girl who has lived in the United Kingdom for sixteen years, I admit to never having known the phrase cultural assimilation. However, I could feel it. It was so evident in society and within my own home that the culture that my parents cherished so much was being watered down as it passed from their generation to mine. What I never seemed to understand, and what I still don't seem to understand, is why this phenomenon seems to happen almost naturally.
