The TV Licence Oversteps Its Bounds
The time was 5:30am, and I was awake. Because I was awake long before I needed to be, I made a cup of tea and decided to watch the US vice presidential debate on YouTube. I would have watched the debate the day after it aired regardless, because these days I tend to go down with the sun. But even if I had wanted to stay up late to watch the debate live, I would have been legally unable to.

Everyone Around Me Tried to Stop My Adoption.
When I became pregnant in 2008, the timing couldn’t be worse. I was in the middle of leaving the child’s father, just starting my third year at university, and barely had any income. But it’s also remarkably stupid to have unprotected sex with someone you’re trying to leave. In any case, it happened. Initially, the father and I decided to stay together, keep the pregnancy, and have a go at being a family. However, while we could make the finances work for year one, beyond that it was increasingly untenable.

It’s Time to Tune Out
Just shy of twenty-five years ago, The Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror VI aired. The Halloween special featured several short horror parodies, including one called “Attack of the 50-Foot Eyesores”. In this segment, a freak lightning storm causes giant advertising mascots to come to life.
