Portal to Another World
My hospital bracelet knocked against the bookshelf as I pulled out a book. I stood in the fantasy section of the closest bookstore to my home. The book was dark in color, and featured a hooded man holding a sword. The inside flap described a mage's quest for a lost artifact and an ancient prophecy. I squinted against the lights as I read.

The Tangles and Knots of Attachment
The string went through His open window and fell three stories down. It gathered on the sidewalk, it twisted on the ground. It snaked into the gutter, it drifted up the street. It tangled all the places, where once were Him and me. It snaked through that alley where I didn’t want to be. It gathered in a puddle where I hoped He would kiss me.

I don't know how to talk to people, so I study them.
I don’t know how to talk to people. So I study them. I’ve never felt at ease with anyone. I am more comfortable out on the stable edge where I can cling to the walls and hope to melt into the decor, than in the swirling middle of the masses.

Dear Grandma, You spent much of your childhood locked in a wardrobe. The only child of poor, Oklahoma landowners, they often lost their temper with you. They chose to lock you up, rather than tend to a child they viewed as a drain on their resources.
