An Unexpected Visitor
A crash from the office was my first hint that something was amiss. Often when I would go in there lately, things wouldn’t be where I left them–a wooden ruler fallen from the ceramic jar where I stored pens and other small things, and yesterday, a shattered coffee cup on the floor. I had really liked that cup, damn it! Books were open to random pages, but never the same one twice. Rats that like to read? Was that a thing? Maybe I’d get a trap next time I went into town, if I could squeeze my budget that far.

It's Five O'Clock Somewhere
“Give me another,” I called to the bartender, raising my empty glass and pointing to it. At her nod, I dropped my arms back to the bar top with a sigh. The golden cuffs around my wrists clanked delicately against the wood of the bar. I remember thinking how beautiful they were, back when this all began, but no longer. The symbol of my people’s indentured servitude could never be beautiful to me, not when I was forced to do such terrible things.

Fool in the Rain
In the light of day, I might be a genius, but I’m a fool in the rain. Any water, really – I AM a naiad, after all - but the rain really gets to me, full of life as its droplets course through my being, singing songs of the places it has been, the sights… But let me stop, or I’ll ramble on all day. I often chatter just as much as my stream, my sisters used to say. I miss them a lot, nearly as much as I miss my stream, but I’m content with the bustle of the small town where I live for now, and my mission will be over soon at any rate, and I can go home. Until then, at least I have the rain.
