Self-Love
Self-love in a world of instant gratification, Face/Body Tune apps, and diet pill/ tea companies plying the "newest way to melt fat without changing anything" it is HARD loving yourself. Media for decades has contributed to the "ideal" (everything) but let's face it - the majority of people fall short of this. I have spent years working on self-love and self-esteem so I hope these 10 tips will help you out.

Intuitive Eating
Let me tell you a story that happened mid last year. This particularFriday was my last day at my old office. I went in early as I usually do – I can get more done with no one to distract me. Unfortunately, not being used to working (hello 4 1/2 months of not working at the office) was disorganized and neglected to eat anything for breakfast and forgot to pack any food for a snack. When the time approached the opening of the local drugstore, I head there to grab a protein bar.

Normalize Normal Bodies
I saw a post on IG the other day that really opened my eyes. It was from one of the plus size curvy influencers and she was more or less complaining about other influencers of more normal and socially acceptable sizes. You know the ones she means; the ones who complain about their bloat belly. The ones who show how the “fitspo” gals get the desired “curves for the gram” when they themselves are skinny. The ones that say “everyone has rolls when they sit” but when they get up, they have nice flat stomachs.

Christmas is Canceled
It’s less than 2 weeks until Christmas and for many of us, we will be spending it alone. When my husband and I moved across Canada almost 30 months ago, it was to be expected that we would be spending it alone as we literally have no family here and our closest friends are about a 6 hour drive away. I know our parents miss us and want to see us, but they understand… though the first Christmas we were away, someone told my mom that the military flies families for free on one of their military flights. It’s a little shitty as it makes many stops across the country to drop off and pick up people so makes for a very long day – I believe one of my coworkers did it last year and went from Ottawa to Victoria and it was a 22 hour flight. The other issue is that there are set days it flies, so our holidays needed to work around that. The first Christmas we didn’t even consider making the trek as we had only been away from home for 6 months. The second (last) Christmas, my husband was going to be starting basic training (as he just joined the military) and we wanted a relaxing Christmas at home – plus we weren’t certain if the travel days would interfere with when he needed to be at the garrison. And then this Christmas… well, originally he was supposed to be at his trades training, so again, the timings wouldn’t have worked with the school schedule… but then covid canceled that either way - including his training.

Reflections
WARNING: Reflections in this mirror may be distorted by socially constructed ideas of beauty. So the other day, I was looking at my reflection and I made the realization that there’s nothing – absolutely NOTHING – wrong with my body! I had an intense wave of love and appreciation for my body. Yes, I’m “over weight” but I’m not unhealthy. Yes, I can be more healthy, but I’m working on it! I eat healthy 90% of the time, I’m physically active, and I get good sleep. I have cellulite – as do 80-90% of women! And almost 70% of women are over weight or obese.

Introduction
This is my first post here on Vocal so I thought I would take this opportunity to write a little about myself in case you have stumbled across this post or my profile and are curious about what you might read as I tend to write what I know... which is from my own experiences.
