Bio
I'm interested in creativity (painting, craft, writing, renovating) and education. I feel pretty novice and unconfident with writing, so I'm really enjoying the challenges on Vocal as a way of experimenting a strengthening my skills.

Katy's Pride Playlist
From Bronski Beat to Lil Nas X, my playlist expresses a story which can be viewed as a narrative love story or an allegory for how our community has struggled towards freedom over the past century or so. Each song in my playlist is represented by a line in a poem, telling a story of queer love and self-acceptance. The protagonist comes from a difficult situation and through connecting with community is able to develop self-confidence, pride and love. Lines from my playlist songs go together to tell a story of adversity, courage, victory and love. The protagonist in the story goes through three main phases; Isolation, Community and Love.

Helen's Quilt
My mother-in-law Helen holds a strong connection with family dear to her heart. She has three siblings and its very important to her that her children are close with their aunties, uncles and cousins. To celebrate this connection and to commemorate Helen’s 60th birthday, I coordinated the family to sew squares for a quilt. It was 2020 and we were in lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so it was good for us all to have a project to keep us busy. We worked together on a really special project which had a big impact on everyone involved.

One way that my Mum has shaped me.
“You are loved” Said her eyes “You are safe” Said her arms “You are cared for” Said her work *** My mum (like all mothers- let’s be honest) is an amazing person. Kind, gentle, patient to a fault. She has been a constant throughout the many phases of my life. I have always felt a huge amount of respect, love and closeness for my mum. Even during times when I have been a brat, a burden or a downright bitch to her. Mum has always shown me love, respect and support, even when I probably didn’t deserve it. Mum has always allowed me to be myself, giving me space while also offering honest feedback and of course, unconditional love. I’ve always felt that no matter what, she had my back. Mum has modelled the importance of creativity, education, individuality and selflessness and these principles, which I have learnt from her, are ones which I try to use as my guide throughout my life. These values have contributed to my choice not to have children of my own. This is not a judgement over other people’s choices, it is only a reflection on my own life and my reasons behind one major decision.

Cold... Dark... Numb.... Bright flashes blind me, as a wave of nausea hits. Screams… Close, then distant, echo through my mind. Rust... Atrophy... Time... An endless expanse of time. Sleep mode... Dreams... Nightmares… Memories… Horror... War... Pain... Cold... Dark... Numb... Rust... Pain… Atrophy... Time… Blinding… Freezing… Rusting… Numbing… Humming… Hurting… Lying… Burying… Footsteps running… Freezing... Burning… Cold… Dark...
