Kathryn Zurmehly
Bio
I am an Army veteran, dog-lover, and writer of many things. I'm not looking to change the world, just build a little bit of something good, something that connects to hearts- and add some cash to my whiskey and books fund.

In the Woods
The deeper in the woods this thing ended up, the better this was going to be. Greg stood upright again and pulled his scarf up to cover his mouth and nose. It kept him warm, but it made it hard to catch his breath. There were no easy options, just icy air that ripped its way into his lungs or warm air that seemed stripped of oxygen.

Beast of the Endless Moment
“What do you mean ‘slumbering ‘til the master comes’?” “That’s what I think it says,” Alistair said, “’The…elder god?’ That’s always fun, though for the record there is nothing weird like that in Antarctica… ‘is slumbering until the master comes.’” He traced the carved letters delicately with a brush as he spoke. Kim doubted even a hammer could have marred them. The doorway and many of the walls were made of something that wasn’t metal and wasn’t stone- or maybe was both. Her analysis was still running.

The Pen Story
This is The Pen Story. It’s an Army story. It’s actually my Army story, the one I pull out when the occasion calls for an Army story from my five years as an Army officer. My career was memorable, but mostly only for me and I can’t say my telling of its memorable bits works for everyone, but this one I can get to work most of the time.
