Nothing Happened for an Age
She cut the twine and ripped off the brown paper. Then slid the pointy end of her vegetable paring knife along the darker gap in the parcel tape, securing the cardboard flaps. A deft slash along both ends and the flaps sprang upwards released from their sticky hold. She stopped. What on earth possessed her? There could be a severed head in the box for all she knew. But she had to know what secret the cardboard held.

Harmony and the Universe
She never liked the aging process. Either too slow as a child or too fast in her fifties. The forty years in between spent in a blur of life. A life that sped up as she reflected on it. Wondering if her diastolic blood pressure would kill her before the new meds eradicated her allergic reactions to life. Well, that's what she hoped for - curing the chronic rhinitis that is - rather than death by untamed hypertension.
