It Is All Downhill from Here
It Is All Downhill from Here By Kami Bryant (This really happened. Truth is stranger than fiction sometimes) “No man is worth dying for,” said the police officer sitting on my apartment stairs. I did agree with him, I didn’t really want to die. I wanted the pain to go away. Plus, I wanted to get my ex-boyfriend’s attention. So, I drank half a fifth of rum on the day he dumped me and then I finished the bottle of rum the next day. To top it off, I took four or five Wellbutrin. I am not sure of the actual amount; it is all a blur. Then, I called him. He came and brought the cops with him. He told them I was attempting suicide. I told the police that he was lying.

L.G. goes Ice Fishing
L.G. goes Ice Fishing By Kami Bryant Todd stood at the bank of the frozen pond. The far bank was directly behind the courthouse and crossing the frozen pond was the fastest way to come up behind the courthouse unseen. No one expected a threat to cross the pond, not with the “Beware! Danger! Thin Ice!” signs posted everywhere along the bank. Todd decided to risk it. He strapped the ice cleats to his waterproof leather work boots and set off.

The Stuff that Dreams are Made of
The Stuff that Dreams are Made of By Kami Bryant Neil was halfway through his shift when he first saw the trio of strange women. The three were so vastly different looking that Neil wondered at the set of circumstances that brought them together in the first place. The big, beautiful black woman wearing a navy pantsuit and practical shoes looked a lot like Stacey Abrams, with her short natural hair in twists and the gap in her two top front teeth. The second one was an early twenty-something looking Harajuku girl who wore all over sparkly pink and black from her pink and black hair in pigtails, midriff baring cotton candy pink Hello Kitty top, hot pink mini skirt to her pink rhinestone covered platform black boots. The third woman looked a lot like a librarian or Neil’s third grade English teacher Mrs. White.

The Survivor, the Sister and the Sailor
The Survivor, the Sister and the Sailor By Kami Bryant Tamsin, carrying a black and white yarn spirit doll that resembled a witch doctor wearing a grass ghillie suit, walked through the open doorway of the dilapidated barn and paused on the bare concrete floor. The front door had been propped open with a cinder block as it had a tendency to slam shut on its loose rusted hinges with a bang terrifying the inhabitants. A big beautiful black woman with short natural hair in twists, a slight gap in her front teeth wearing a navy blue pantsuit and sensible shoes stood waiting at the pulpit. Three folding metal chairs sat before the woman, two of them occupied. In one seat sat a tanned, rugged, blond man wearing a scallop shell necklace on a chain and in the other was a mocha skinned skinny girl wearing a silver butterfly necklace. Tamsin took her seat in the waiting empty chair and set her witch doctor spirit doll in her lap.

The Apothecary
The Apothecary By Kami Bryant The Apothecary drove two hours from the city to the small fishing town on the Oregon Coast. She drove a ten-year-old white, non-descript American made car. The car didn’t have a single bumper sticker or fancy tires or rims and was so ordinary that it wouldn’t draw a second glance. She drove exactly the speed limit and stayed in the right lane.

Two Sentence Horror Stories Season Two on Netflix
Two Sentence Horror Stories Season Two on Netflix A Review By Kami Bryant I love horror. I love the jump scares. I love the weird and the bizarre. I love the suspense. I love the on the edge of your seat, pee your pants terror. I love screaming at my screen, “Don’t go up the stairs! Run out the door! He is behind you!” I love all of it. “The call is coming from inside the house.” I hear a scary noise, let me go to the creepy basement to investigate. And the stupid girl yelling “Hello?”, as if the killer is going to answer, “Yeah, I’m in here making a sandwich. I will be out to kill you in just a minute.” Two Sentence Horror Stories isn’t that scary, but it is fun and compelling. There is a subreddit for Two Sentence Horror Stories if you are curious. https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoSentenceHorror/

Cancer/Leo Cusp
Cancer/Leo Cusp By Kami Bryant I like astrology. I think it is kind of fun. My mother was really deep into mysticism, the occult and Wicca. She liked to read palms. She liked handwriting analysis, numerology and also astrology. I know a little bit about astrology, but I don’t think I am really that obsessed with it. What I know is there are twelve signs. There are four elements corresponding to the twelve signs meaning there are three signs for each element. For instance, the earth signs are Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo. Air signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. The fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. And the water signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. Then the elements also have modalities. The cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. The fixed signs are Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius and Taurus. And the mutable signs are Sagittarius, Pisces, Gemini and Virgo. The cardinal signs are the leaders. The fixed signs are stubborn. And the mutable signs are flexible. The earth signs are reliable and stable. The air signs are thinkers, communicators, and doers. The fire signs are aggressive, lusty, and passionate. And the water signs are emotional.

Bessie Smith, Billie Holliday, Etta James and Tracy Chapman The Bluesy Black Women that I Love
Bessie Smith, Billie Holliday, Etta James and Tracy Chapman The Bluesy Black Women that I Love By Kami Bryant My love affair with the blues began one day when I was fourteen sitting at Southern Illinois University of Carbondale’s library listening to scratchy songs on vinyl. My mother was attending SIU Carbondale pursuing her bachelor’s degree. I would spend hours in the library while she was in class. I didn’t finish eighth grade because I came down with a debilitating illness called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome when I was eleven years old. I spent most of the next five years completely bed ridden. My mother took me out of school and decided that I should be home schooled. When not lying in bed reading as many books as I could get my hands on, I would go to the library. The university library was a treasure trove and a holy place to my fourteen-year-old book worm’s soul. I would spend all day at the library reading books. I then discovered not only could I read books, but I could listen to music too. So, with big can headphones on, I discovered ladies who sing the blues.
