I incurred a concussion almost 8 years ago in a terrible car accident. I was off work for close to two years and had two failed attempts to return to work. TBI Recovery: Plateaus and Setbacks
Set-backs are normal The first six months after a TBI are where the most significant gains are made in recovery. It is a misconception that you have to directly strike your head to incur a TBI. In my case, the impact of a double hit in a car accident was enough to rattle the brain in my skull resulting in a brain injury.

The Path of Women
The women in my family before me, they carved a path for me. This path at times winds gently through dew-damp forests, along sun-dappled streams and rivers. A canopy of leaves keep the sun-blistering heat of day at bay. When night descends it darkens the once cheery path where teeth and claws strike at unsuspecting prey. Sometimes the path meanders lazily though sunny meadowlands, to where winds gently bend the grasses seemingly with open arms to invite one for a rest. Other times, the path ascends over treacherous gravelly terrain along perilously rocky cliffs. Here, a millennia of thunderous storms have taken their toll on this stretch of road. Waves crash harshly over boulders and rocks that have broken off, falling thousands of feet below to their demise.

A Golden Summer
Ms. Kat, er Mrs. Walker as Mama says I have to call her, has always lived next to us. Well as long as I can ‘member. She made me my cake last birthday! Brought it over with eight candles on it and everything! Ms. Kat was still wearin her flour-splotched apron over her house dress! She stayed to sing me Happy Birthday with Mama and Pa. She used to come over lots. Her and Mama would sometimes bake together. Mostly Ms. Kat did the baking and Mama just had tea. Mama isn’t a baker and often said as much. We both loved Ms. Kat’s cookies. They are THE best! Ms. Kat, she’d always slip me a treat or a couple dollars, with a wink and say “Shh. Our little secret.”
