Bio
My name is Julianna. I have been writing since I was at least eight years old. Writing for me is an outlet, a job, a hobby, and at times, a third parent. I love sharing my stories with others. I hope to change the world through my words.

My First Mentor
Let me ask you a question, look back on your life. Do you remember your very first mentor? As I began to ponder all the mentors I had in my life, I thought about my first jobs and those who took me under their wing, mainly when I worked in radio. Then I thought back a little deeper to my childhood playing and music and all the coaches and teachers I had over the years. Then I remembered the first sport I ever competed at, running. I started running competitively at age six. And my first running mentor was my mom.

Turkey Neck Gumbo and Mirliton Pies
Have you ever eaten a meal or a dish, and it takes you back to a memory of the person who made that meal? I have several food memories, especially from my childhood. But two dishes when I hear them take me back to the kitchen they were prepared in.

My Assistants
Every time I sit at my desk to write, I always was joined by my cat Suze. She tried to get my attention by pawing at my hand to pet her or stepping on my keyboard most of the time. As distracting as she could be, she amused me, and I was grateful for our routine.

The Day I Don't Remember
There are dates and days in life we automatically remember. Birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays all come to mind when thinking about these. I remember the day of the Challenger explosion. I was in the third grade and sick that day and stayed home from school. My mom and I watched all of it happen on TV and prayed it was not real. I remember waking up the morning of September 11, 2001, and turning on CNN to see the towers being destroyed before my eyes and knew there were people in those planes and buildings dying. I remember the early morning hours of October 14, 2003, as I waited for the phone call that my first niece was born. I couldn’t have been prouder to become an aunt.

What a Weekend!
I will be absolutely honest; my plans for the weekend were to sit in a tattered lawn chair on my friend’s aged,in-need-of repair, untreated wood deck in front of the shallow bayou with murky water and only a few fish and drink an adult beverage or two or many. My week has been nothing but stressful. All week it seemed I put out fires in an attempt not to step on toes I desperately would love to crush. This place I chose may not be ideal, but it works to eliminate any thoughts of work and empty your mind.
