Not the Canada I remember...
Since long before Covid 19 hit our nation, our Government of Canada has continually failed us or at the very least failed to tell us the truth. Canada is known for being a safe, opportunist country where equality reigns and all of our citizens are supportive of one another. We are known for having an excellent healthcare system offering most free public healthcare. Unfortunately when the pandemic hit and for the years to follow so much attention had been drawn to how corrupted and dangerous our political system encapsulates. It shined a bright light on the gravity of their roles as politicians. It highlighted how their decisions could easily have a negative ripple effect that could easily damage or destroy parts of our society. I’m not saying that they should have handled the pandemic differently because truthfully I believe they did what they could with the very limited information on hand. It was a very unprecedented time not just in Canada, but across the world. However, the majority of other decisions that they made, and decisions that are continuing to be made today are the issue. They need to collectively sit back and review their choices thus far, and try to identify what went wrong, so that going forward they could back their choices with integrity and honor. In my experience, politics is a very juvenile, egotistical popularity contest that allows people in power to make the same mistakes over and over again. It allows our leaders to fail us time and time again, failing consistently to honor the positions and the power they carry. Not all politicians are bad, and I do believe there are some that lead because they want to, not for themselves but for our society. The issue is that the good ones are the minority, and they get drowned out in almost every headline.

What is love?
Honestly I kind of think asking what love is, is a really loaded question. It’s an unquantifiable emotion felt everywhere, everyday. Someone once told me that where there is life, there is love. I think the best place to start is by acknowledging that love is so much more than just romance. Love is found through our family, friends, pets, and even through our passions. We have all experienced at least one kind of love in our lives. To think otherwise is naive. Through loving we are able to find happiness, bliss, and a sense of purpose.

Winter get-away with my love
We drove up the snowy, winding road towards the cozy A-frame cabin. The drive was a nice reminder of how peaceful, and calm the winter can be. It has so much clarity to offer beyond the cold, brisk conditions. This will be my first trip with my boyfriend, and I’m looking forward to seeing it all unwind.

The mystery package
After graduating high school, young Lillian signs for her first apartment. In an effort to avoid any drama following her into her new life, she opts not to tell very many people about her new place. She shares the news and address with her family, cousins and her best friend Tina. She is nervous about leaving home and being on her own, though she is also super excited to be starting the next chapter of her life. Her brother and dad help her on moving day, they spend the majority of the day encouraging Lillian to branch out and try new things as she ventures into the next part of her life. Everyone knows this is the next step for her, including Tina, who planned to come over the next day to help her unpack and decorate her new apartment. The next steps everyone comes face to face with can be daunting to say the least, especially when people are young.

Power
See, that’s the problem, the feelings after are unlike and unmatched to one another. It was a person, just like you and me. A person who in that single moment introduced you to an entirely new world. You quickly became infatuated and filled yourself with ooey gooey feelings. This new life was one unlike any other you had experienced. They showed you new parts of this world, and introduced you to other cultures. They opened your eyes to this whole other side of the world, and it felt so euphoric that the next part was no surprise.

Dreamland
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. The old wives tale tells a story of a land free of dragons, free of war and free from poverty. The way my great grandpa described it was like a dream, thick green grass, wild flowers lining the horizon, golden sun warming the lands, hand built homes, a castle where all were welcome to visit with our royalty. Kids out singing and playing, farmers selling fresh products, people out for dusk walks and sunrises at the shore.

Words
I don’t think I really understood just how much I could carry, until I had no choice. I was 11 years old when it began, but it wasn’t until my late teens that things began to make sense. As a young girl I was faced with medical issues that in all likelihood should have ended my life. I couldn’t even swallow water, and I was a class A medical mystery. I had the doctors running in circles for months before we even began resolving the issue and uncovering my body’s hidden truths.

Suicide Lake
Like most days in Golingbrook it was rainy, damp and foggy. I have felt the same coldness seep into my bones almost every single day since my family moved here 3 years ago. I hate it here, I despise this depressing weather. My friends seem to hate it as well, but at least we have each other.
