For as long as I’ve been speaking to online retailers (and that’s longer than I care to remember), I’ve been passionately trying to persuade them to invest in email marketing. To be honest, most retailers don’t need too much convincing. Email marketing remains the most cost-effective and profitable marketing channel available to online retailers today. Despite this, many marketers fail to engage their email marketing strategy to the level such an important marketing channel deserves.
Sadly, in business, this isn’t always the case with numerous marketing organizations investing thousands of hours and countless pounds, dollars, and euros into content that doesn’t quite hit the mark or, worse still, perhaps not investing in content at all.
A student on a Writing, Publishing, Marketing, and Selling Your First Book online course I run recently asked me how quickly they could expect to earn $5,000 on the various eBook and Print on Demand publishing platforms I recommend working with.
A café bar in Fabrica, which according to Lonely Planet is home to one of the world's most beautiful beaches and, in my opinion, is still one of Portugal's best-kept secrets, is a funny place to start a story about cycling between the more, shall I say bracing, Lincolnshire seaside resort towns of Cleethorpes, Mablethorpe, and Skegness. But it was in Fabrica, in the long, hot summer of 2018, that I was inspired to write about cycling in a much cooler place. Clearly, I’m talking about temperatures here.
Too many wantrepreneurs give up when their side hustle fails to make the kind of big-dollar returns promised by those social media business mavens who have apparently bottled the wealth-generating capabilities of the Internet. The fact is, there is gold in them there hills, but the guy standing in front of a private jet on Instagram is highly unlikely to show you where it is.
Long-form content, distributed via your corporate blog, email marketing, and social media, helps marketers demonstrate that their organization has the finger on the pulse of their industry and showcase their thought-leadership in a given topic. It will help persuade potential clients that your organization is the go-to problem solver (and all business is about solving problems) and help your web presence as your website climbs the search engine rankings (solving numerous marketing problems for you).
It’s often said that everyone has a good book in them. This perhaps explains why, when I published my first book back in 2012, so many people told me that they were also writing a book. Of course, they were. I mean, if I can do it, why couldn’t they? It’s just that in the last eight years, I’ve not seen many of them reach the final stage of the process where they have actually published anything.
My friends often tease me that I never smile in the photos (selfies) I take when I am out on my bike. I don’t know why my face refuses to crack a smile because, for me, I’m at my happiest when I’m hitting the open road on my bike. In fact, I’d go as far as saying, happiness for me is definitely bike shaped.
