In fact, studies have shown that individuals with mental illness are more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators. Nevertheless, the media and some politicians have pointed to gun control as the solution to the problem of mass shootings. This essay argues that the increase in mass shootings is a result of mental health issues in society and not a lack of gun regulation.
