Mr. Underwood's Appointment
Mr. Underwood exited his Uber full of anxiety. It was bad enough that they had hit so much traffic on I-4, but his driver was late to boot. He watched the app as the driver sat still for a good five minutes at Wawa before heading to pick him up. They crawled for another 25 minutes in traffic, only to travel the 5 exits to get to his cardiologist’s office; all while listening to music in a foreign language, although he did catch the occasional “puta” in the lyrics. He had 5 minutes left to get to his appointment, an appointment he was already dreading to begin with.

Her deep blue eyes under her dark eyebrows were the talk of the village.

One Small Step
I knew from an early age that I wanted to be a nurse, but I was a single mom with little resources and struggling to survive on public assistance. I had no idea how I would ever be able to pay for school. One day, while coming home from Eleanor’s Tavern with my best friend Siobhan, I saw a huge, rectangular, red and black sign outside of the Massapequa Fire House looking for volunteer EMT’s. At a time when I felt like life would not let me move forward, I learned that achieving a dream sometimes only takes one small step.

My Forever Kiss
On Halloween of 2014, I met the man of my dreams. I was in the backyard of my good friend’s house, about to take our kids trick or treating. I had pretty much given up on men and decided to put all my focus on my kids. But then a man carrying a box came into the backyard. He introduced himself to me before even putting the box down and shook my hand. It felt as if my heart skipped a beat and I got chills throughout my body. It was then that I knew I had met the man I had been waiting for.
