If Only Adoption Was So Easy
She couldn't see them, but she knew her hands were bleeding. She could feel the blood running down her fingers, so she stood with her hands as far out away from herself as the space would allow. Getting thrown in The Chokey was bad enough without getting blood all over the brand new dress Grandma had just given her.

"You're incredible, you know that pig?" Arielle asked in a muffled voice. "Well thank you miss, it's always a pleasure to receive positive feedback from clients," came the genuinely happy sounding response from the reason for Arielle's discomfort. "In my line of work it's usually, 'Eff off and die pig!' Or, 'I hope you choke on your donut!'" Deputy McCarthy went on, her strong hands continuing to press the younger woman up against the cobweb infested wall as she checked for weapons.

She leaned away from the labored swing of the starving wretch in front of her, too exhausted herself to feel the rush of adrenaline that had accompanied the early fights. Her feet, clumsy from hunger, dragged over bits of broken concrete as she stepped back from the following swing of the pipe, absently noting the once-chrome fixture on the end was coated with dried blood and bits of hair.
