The Leveling of Humanity CH 8: Leveling Up
The level-up screen hovered before each of them as they gathered in the middle of the room. The group took a moment to breathe in satisfaction from their first combat encounter before addressing their pending level-up statuses. Finally, Chase sat down and pulled up the screen, ready to proceed.

The Leveling of Humanity Ch 6: Tactical Map
Chase and his companions now stood in a stone chamber as the glow faded. Stone bricks and blocks lined the floors, walls, and ceiling. Three doorways were visible in the center of each of the three divisions. The room formed a perfect square, but no opening was behind them.
The Leveling of Humanity Ch 5: Welcome to the Tutorial Tower
As the group made their way toward the tower, they had to park and continue forward on foot. Emily and Sofie discussed the merits of using a machete over a bat after they'd passed by another van vendor selling metal bats to people in line. Chase was feeling increasingly apprehensive as they approached the tower, and Gary seemed to sense this as he leaned close to him.
The Leveling of Humanity Ch 4
The sight of the stone tower pushing up from an innocuous field was undoubtedly exciting, but the group still had a way to go before they could reach the location, and as they got close, they could not approach due to the crowds of people gathered. Military on one half setting up a strong perimeter and slowing the flow, civilians on the other trying to rush into the tower. They listened to the news as they reported on what was happening, and hour by hour crept by as they slowly moved through the heavy traffic.
The Leveling of Humanity CH 3
Chase and Emily were the first to leave the parked car and start into the open field full of glowing orbs. Gary and Sofie came behind them, excitedly rushing into the open area. They all ran to one of the glowing spheres and crushed one. Chase was startled as a notification appeared in the bottom right of his vision.
The Leveling of Humanity CH 2
Chase was ushered out of the house by Emily and brought to her familiar light blue Honda. He was surprised to see two people waiting in the back seat. There sat a girl with long dark hair, glasses, and a book in her lap. Beside her sat a guy with short blonde hair. Despite the heat, he wore a long-sleeved flannel shirt and smiled excitedly as the pair approached. They climbed into the car, and Emily immediately started the engine while gesturing to the duo in the back with her free hand.
The Leveling of Humanity CH 1
Chase sat on his couch in the small two-bedroom apartment he called home, staring at the news for the third straight hour. The shock of the past seven days was still weighing on him, but being from the newest generation of free-thinkers, it wasn't something he couldn't comprehend or process. Truthfully, he had often read stories, watched media, and daydreamed about being in a video game-like setting where his stats were on display. A world where he could level up and focus on what he wanted to do with more guidelines than the real world offered. This was now his reality and the reality of the rest of humanity. Everyone was flocking to the location of the pillars of light, descending from the alien ships and attacking the orbs of light to level up. Chase also wanted to go, but the closest location to him with spheres was near Atlanta. Unfortunately, that was about a 95-mile trip away, and he lacked the funds to make it there. Things had been tight for him financially since Emily had broken up with him and took most of the stuff in their formerly shared little apartment. One income to pay all the bills was hardly enough for the pricey apartment in the city where he lived, but he had to make due.
The Fall of the Minotaur
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. Yet the humans screamed. They screamed within the vacuum of space as we ripped them from their garden of Eden, as they called it. They screamed as we took them like livestock and spread them among our ships. They cried out in the silent vacuum of space and screamed in silence. We have never before encountered a species so weak yet so ruthless. If we had known, we would have never tried taking what was theirs. The humans did not go willingly when our ships dropped into their orbit. They did not go without a fight as we gathered them together. Our technology was more significant, and we had little trouble at first. We took them all. The council was greedy, envious, and decisively struck to take that garden of Eden. We scattered the humans out and thought that was the end of it as we began cultivating their forests and oceans. We were harvesting the surplus as our algorithms saw fit, allowing the planet to flourish.
