A Golden Compass, Sunshine and a little Magic
The joy of creating takes you into a world of mystic wonder where you have a chance to tell a story. The mind chatter dissipates as you cut leather and find the perfect materials to pair with it to create a unique special something for those you love. My biggest inspiration when creating always comes from those whimsical characters in my life, those real-life people that ooze magic and vibrancy into the world. This project I decided to create for a cousin of mine. Now she is no ordinary human. We would go to festivals with a whole tribe of our family, mostly sisters, and spend our time in giant circus tents dancing in top hats and stripy pants until the sun began to poke through the gum trees. This one particularly sparkly night I saw her dancing in patchwork overalls and her very special top hat covered in animal fur and feathers. She danced with a cheeky grin and a belly full of laughter. In this moment she became a forest wizard, perhaps related to Radagast, dancing completely in her joy, allowing the world to witness her playful expression. One could surmise that I am rather inspired by her trickster personality, a family trait we seem to share. When looking for her birthday present, I found a beautiful golden compass, nestled in one of those huge glass cabinets full of trinkets and misfit items. ‘Yes!’ I thought, a perfect gift for a wizard, something to guide her through adventurous dreams.

The Little Black Book
My existence is a small one, I have a hard cover, and my body consists of endless pages. I am a little black book that has a request of my writers in the front cover. That request is that they ink my blank spaces with their story of how abundance presents itself in their life, and what they do with it. I am passed from person to person, travelling the world to weave a collective tale of human greed and generosity. I can describe the human experience through feeling stories written on my pages. I want to know how different people think, and I want to change the lives of people I know will change the world for the better. The people who have a spirit as expansive as the universe. They are the ones who change the course of time. I have felt the tales of an elderly man who lived out his dreams and built a mountain village, a young woman who was a single parent living in New York city who used every cent to send her child to university. I have felt words written by people who used abundance to build castles, save charities, cure blindness, save the endangered Jaguar in Panama, build islands off the coast of Madagasca, recreate the intricate jewellery made by ancient Egypt Empires, build ships that shadow the titanic, start movements to fight for Indigenous People’s rights…

A tale of wild adventure and extraordinary nature
Spending time in imagination to escape the mundane life... Deep within my belly, this aching was calling my name to leap into a wild adventure. This sensation that there was something to discover, there were people out in the open world that I was destined to meet, and there was something I needed to share with them. This burning desire for untamed adventure would swirl within me during uni lectures, during work shifts pouring coffees, and in conversations that only had half my attention. My weeks were the same routine, day in and day out. But in my daydreaming mind I would visualize worlds of green wilderness, eccentric characters that were overflowing with excitement. I would transport myself to the tops of mountains where the air was so clear it made my body float. I would travel to the deepest undiscovered forests of the world to sit among trees that seemed to tower into space. Slowly I began to spend more time in my imagination than in the reality surrounding me. As I slipped deeper into this golden and extraordinary world, it began to flow out into physical form.
