The Premonition
Raina awakens, immersed in a pristine, cataclysmic black. A darkness she'd never known. Her chest panging. Her gut pulling and whirling about like a cyclone. A rhythmic commotion bustling beneath her, that's palpable. With angst, she manages to sit upright. She perceives the cool, smooth surfaces surrounding her to be metal. Although nearly paralyzed, it becomes clear to Raina, that she is in motion. She must be on a train. How did she arrive here? "Hello", her quavering voice echoes through the hollow, lifeless void. "Hello" , she cried again. This time with more desperation in her voice. No response. Now frantic, she begins to cry. She draws her knees to her chest and pretzel-ed her arms around her legs. Cocooning herself in sorrow. She rocked and wept for what seemed like hours before she mustered the courage to stand. Shakily, she finds her bearings and takes hold of the cool metal seating in front of her. Stepping out into the dark isle, she begins gaining ground and guessing her way through the rail-carriage. Several blind steps later, her extended hands land at a door. She manages to push the heavy door ajar and sees the first sign of light on the tracks. Intoxicating sparks danced beneath her. Little sparks of hope that would light her way to the next carriage. Raina seizes the opportunity of the flickers, leaping across to the moving compartment. She makes it across, and enters. Dazzling light pours though and she shields her face from the brilliance. "We have summoned you" , a silvery voice says. Her eyes still adjusting, she makes out a room of cloaked figures, that fill the carriage. Their faces become more clear now. A soiree of iridescent hues, radiant and glowing. Raina only was afforded small glimpses before having to shelter her eyes. Much like gazing into the sun. "Who are you?", Raina implores. "We're the Premonitioners" , another figure answers. " We won't harm you. We have vital information to give you. Listen carefully. There are dark forces in your world. Powerful forces that are planning an ambush on your people. They will release a geo-magnetic storm on your people, wiping out almost all living beings on earth. You have been chosen to stop them." "But, how?" , Raina asks. "Your mission is simple. Hidden in plain sight, a fountain exists right outside of your library." "The Paladin Fountain!" , Raina exclaims. "Under the trickling waters, lies a trapped entity that wants to save your people." The cloaked figure extends their glistening hand towards Raina, placing a golden key in her hand. Now go, and release your hero!" Raina startles awake to find herself back in the library. She had been studying here before she found herself on a train. "Is everything alright dear?" , asks the sweet librarian. "Oh, yes" , I must have dozed off. I had the most curious dream. I'd better go now." Raina gathered her belongings and heads towards the door. "Oh, Raina! You've dropped something, Dear." The librarian hands the item to Raina. "You'd better get going, it's looking nasty out there." Raina looks down, opening her hand, she reveals the golden key that lay in her palm. Raina knew what she had to do. She had a mission, and a premonition. She runs out the door and leaps into the fountain, diving under. She finds the home for the golden key and twists it into its place. There was a final clap of thunder in the sky above her, before the clouds dissipated and the sky was again blue. Raina's job was complete. The End.
