Introduction to Rabbit Gastrointestinal Stasis and Its Symptoms
Gastrointestinal stasis, otherwise known as GI stasis, is a common and potentially dangerous condition found in rabbits. GI stasis occurs when the normal movement of the intestinal tract slows or stops, resulting in an accumulation of gases, bacteria, and even fluid in the intestines. Symptoms of this condition include reduced appetite, decreased droppings production, fur blockage (when fur is ingested due to grooming), bloating, sluggishness or difficulty moving around normally, and possibly even regurgitation. Rabbits suffering from GI stasis should be taken to a veterinarian for treatment immediately.
