It’s All a Matter of Perspective.
I sit in my room with a trembling heart worried about how life will turn out. Will my story be told as a tale of inspiration or will it be one of those sad examples of people who failed in life? My teary eyes are the window to a heart that has been shredded to pieces by the atrocities of life. My emotions seem non-existent, the result of the numbness one acquires after years of coping. My eyes are darkened, almost lifeless, a reflection of all those sleepless nights that were brought on by heightened emotions and racing thoughts. But as I write this desolate piece, I cannot help but smile with gratitude for the life I have lived. Weird right? Let me explain.

The New Nuclear Race.
The term “Nuclear Race” has a different meaning today than it had in the past. During the Cold War, the nature of international relations was shaped by geopolitics. That meant that the major powers of the world strived to obtain political control of as much geographical area as possible. A significant tool for this objective was nuclear deterrence. Both global power centers i.e., USA and the Soviets used their arsenal of nuclear weapons to implicitly threaten other states into compliance. Therefore, the basis for power lay in weaponized nuclear capabilities.

The Changing World Order.
The current climate of international politics envisages a change in the global order. Increasing hostility among states and the proliferation of arms and conflict are clear signs of instability in the international order. Scholars of international relations had theorized that in every 80-100 years the global order goes through a change, where one global power falls and another one rises. World War II resulted in the fall of the British Empire, an imperialistic hegemon of its age, and the rise of USA as the global hegemon. Almost 80 years have passed since the war and the world seems on the brink of change once again.

Finding order in chaos.
Lucky are those who truly find their passion in life. And luckier are those who have the liberty to pursue it. After endless failed attempts at finding out what my passion in life was, I finally stumbled upon it. I realized I was really passionate about learning new things, adding a tinge of my individuality in it, and then broadcasting it to the world through profound, captivating and thought-invoking content. I found my pensive recluse in writing. However, whenever I sit down to write an article (or even think about writing one), I am struck with this overwhelming fear. The fear of exposing myself (through my ideas) to the world. The fear of being judged. The fear of my content not being good enough. The fear of being laughed at for expressing myself. The fear of being vulnerable in front of the world. This fear keeps me from pursuing my passion.

Take Control Of Your Emotions.
Emotions are a very powerful element of our psyche. They determine our reactions, shape our behaviors and can literally control our physical body. Anyone who has suffered from depression can vouch that the simplest of tasks seem immensely exhausting when your psyche is drowning in anhedonia. Patients of anxiety disorders will resonate with the fact that the body gets shockingly paralyzed when you face a trigger that induces fear in your mind. Even the healthy person can understand how neurotic emotions hinder the normal productivity of the body. If only we could control our emotions, we would be able to fully control our body.

The Beauty Within.
I was brought up being taught that everyone in this world is beautiful, but the world taught me otherwise. Our society has seemed to establish standards of beauty that are superficial, hollow, and if I dare say so myself, just plain boring. Beauty pageants embed allure in having an attractive body. Bodybuilding competitions establish the standard of male attractiveness in being buff, with excessively protruding muscles. But don’t such flamboyant displays of physical attractiveness eclipse the true beauty of those participating in them: the elegance of a woman and the discipline and determination of the man? Some say that beauty lies in wealth. Being rich automatically makes you beautiful. But what about the charming smile of the poverty-stricken woman when she gets complimented by her husband on the stew she made with scraps of leftover meat? What about the beauty in the gaze of admiration a child has for his father who works all day in the fields? They say that a man is only attractive if he is strong, stoic and unfazed by the trials and trepidations of life. But isn’t there something beautiful in the courage it takes for a man to be vulnerable and sensitive?
