Gas Lighting: “You’re Just Being Dramatic!”
Introduction I've heard many times while talking with people, “They just blew me off and made it about themselves!”. Whether this particular phrase or a variation of the sort, no one likes to feel pushed aside, ignored or misunderstood. These feelings can lead to a lifetime of self doubt, self criticism and lack of emotional awareness. But how does it happen? Does the person doing it know they are making me feel this way? How do I know if I really am overreacting? Well I’m here to tell you that all these spiraling thoughts are completely NORMAL! It’s common to feel this way when you feel like you’ve interpreted someone’s intentions to be manipulative or selfish. It’s easy to say to these people “you just need to work on communication..” and then leave that person with a million more doubts and questions. I find the best solution is a simple step by step approach that can be done quickly within a conversation to avoid misunderstanding and hurt feelings in a relationship.

The Toddler Phase: “Don’t Take it Personally” (Written by- Genuine Kaeo) Introduction So you’ve reached the toddler years and OH BOY! This stage is both beautiful and teeth grinding, with all the new words being learned (good and bad), ouchies and the age old testing boundaries it may feel impossible to stay calm and collected. You are not alone and while some of these behaviors like kicking, screaming NO and the occasional swinging fists I can assure you this is completely normal. While the behavior is expected at this stage of development you may find yourself feeling triggered by some of these actions, there is one key thing to keep in mind during this phase. It’s Not Personal!

Law Enforcement: Brutality and Bias
Since the beginning we as human beings have assessed the world around us in an attempt to understand the possible dangers and continue the life long struggle of self-preservation. During this time our minds have created what we call defaults about certain subjects, items and experiences. For example, if you find yourself tripping over that rug by the door multiple times, eventually you will either move the rug or be more conscious about stepping over it. This is the skill set of the unconscious mind, the power tool used to help us navigate our world seamlessly. But what happens when our conscious observations are built from lessons learned unnecessarily? What happens when what we subconsciously show as biased ends up offending someone? This is inevitable in a sense that we all learn and experience life differently. Thus, issues like racism are born and what seemed like innate fears are subconscious manifestations of our learned behavior. In today's society this issue rears its ugly head in a new light with the involvement of our law enforcement. With reports pouring in practically every day about a police officer who "brutally" shot and killed someone of color and social media being the center of our news source today, it's difficult to see both sides and whether or not our own "Protect and Serve" law enforcement is truly responsible for this. This is exactly what I am trying to understand and I hope I can help others see a bigger picture as well. Let it be known that I am in no way defending either side here, I am simply assessing the evidence and making an educated theory as to how issues like racism and police brutality have come to be and remain and also how they can be resolved.

The Worker Today
Through our lifetime we put all our energy into spending our first years learning to walk and talk, then the next few years starting school all the way to graduation. With the hopes that you will secure a good paying job and then working the rest of your years until retirement. But what are we attempting to secure? Happiness? perhaps a life that feels everlasting and fulfilling in every way. Maybe you are simply working to supply the basic needs in life (food, shelter, and clothing). What ever the reason we are always searching, eventually we run into this inevitable feeling of despair and uselessness. The big question I want to ask is how? How do we go about living life and working towards a goal without this deep dark feeling of running like a hamster in a wheel?
