Stan "Tookie" Williams and the Crips
On December 13th, 2005, a couple weeks before his 52nd birthday, Stanley ”Tookie” Williams III was executed by the State of California for the murder of 4 people. I remember one of my teachers, who lived in Watts, CA, a neighborhood of Los Angeles, telling us there would be riots all over L.A. about a week before his execution. Everyone was expecting riots, similar to the 1992 L.A. riots, when 4 LAPD officers were acquitted of excessive force charges, in the beating of Rodney King.

My experience going to a baseball game in Europe.
I googled if there are any batting cages in Amsterdam, where I could go during my vacation in Holland. I found there was one on the outskirts of the city, connected to the stadium of the Amsterdam Pirates, the local baseball team. Next thing I noticed, that during the time I’d be in Amsterdam, the European Champion Cup would take place. I decided to get tickets for June 7th, this was a great opportunity to see what baseball culture is like outside of the U.S.

Life imitates art, from aspiring actor to gang member.
You might not know this actor’s name, but you’ll definitely remember his most memorable scene in John Singleton’s Boyz N The Hood. The scene I’m talking about is when Ricky, played by Morris Chestnut, gets gunned down by a Crenshaw Mafia Gangsters Bloods member, played by Lloyd Fernandez Avery II. If it’s still not clear, the actor turned gang member, I'm talking about is Lloyd. If you haven’t seen this Oscar-nominated classic, about growing up in South Central Los Angeles, during the late 80s/early 90s. I’d suggest you watch it.
