The Scarlet A
I suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and some of my fellow GAD friends know that some situations cause more anxiety than others. Medical appointments do it for me I have this overwhelming anxiety every time I go that they are going to tell me something awful or I have some rare disease, but what I have also found is that once a doctor finds out that I suffer from anxiety they have a hard time looking past that The Scarlet A ( anxiety) to give me any other diagnosis or treatment. Now, of course, I’m not talking about all doctors and I have finally found doctors that are willing to work with me and my anxiety but it has been a long road to get to that point.

Falling Off Track
For the last several months I have been working towards multiple goals and of course, blogging about them. In January I hit my stride and was making huge progress and feeling good about how far I had come. I was starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel of my Lyme Disease Journey, I was working on being more organized, getting back into a fitness routine, blogging consistently on Medium, and overall working towards a healthier lifestyle.

This Time Last Year
This past week I had some time off of work, enjoyed a quick skiing trip with some friends, met some other friends for a birthday brunch, went to a comedy show with my sister, and finally had some dental work done that I had been putting off. Halfway through my time off, I realized where I was this time last year ( Super Bowl Weekend) and I almost cried at how much progress and how close I felt to my pre-pandemic and pre-Lyme Disease Life.

The One Pandemic Habit I’m Keeping
We all remember March 2020 and our lives changing forever, as we entered the rollercoaster of pandemic living. In the early days of the pandemic, people were grocery shopping like it was going out of style, stocking up on everything they could find, and the grocery store shelves were bare. I was there with everyone else doing the same thing.

Lyme Disease During COVID
When I think back on it I laugh a little bit at the irony of the situation. I settled into my COVID routine in March of 2020 that carried me through most of the summer and into the fall hikes, gardening, and spending time outside while avoiding large crowds. The ironic part? While avoiding COVID I got Lyme Disease and it was ten long months of doctor appointments, symptoms, and unanswered questions.

Getting Back to Me
Not everyone has the same journey and it looks a little different for each person. So if you are recovering from an illness, anxiety, depression, in a rut, or maybe just a pandemic hangover it is important to get back to yourself. For me, it was ten months of undiagnosed Lyme Disease and then six months of antibiotics and now slowly getting back to my pre-Lyme Disease life.

I Started Running Today
If you had told me this time last week that I would be writing this post I would have laughed and said you were crazy but here I am. This week I heard about a 5K that is being organized for a cause very close to my heart. I want to be part of the 5K but I don’t run. I made the decision that since I have been adjusting to my workout routine over the last several months and I’ve been putting off taking it to the next level that this is the perfect opportunity.

Yes, I Still Use A Planner
Every time the topic of a planner comes up in conversation, my friends laugh when I say that I still use a regular planner as opposed to the calendar on my phone. I used to be embarrassed but now I say it proudly and add that I have two ( one for my personal life and one for work).

Staying on Track
The week leading up to time away is full of excitement, preparation, anxiety, and giddiness. I can’t seem to stay on track with my goals or routine and the thought always crosses my mind that when I get back I am going to be this different person who magically pulls it all together and hops back on track better than ever.

Listening to My Body
Listening to my body and working with it has been a work in progress for a long time and probably will be one of those skills that always will be. I have learned a lot along the way and continue to grow and become more comfortable with practice and the benefits do payoff.

My Lyme Disease Story
I will never forget it, I was sitting at my desk on Monday June 16, 2021, for what seemed like the thousandth time in the last 10 months I was eagerly waiting test results in hopes that I would have some explanation about what was going on. I opened the results with my heart beating out my chest in hopes that it would not be another disappointment and it was all anxiety. As I started reading through the Igenex Lyme Disease Report there it was I had tested positive for Lyme Disease along with Tick Borne Relapsing Fever Borrelia SPP.
