I thought I knew fear and grief, but I didn’t. Not until you passed away, Mom. That day, I rushed out of the hotel and to your hospital bed. I just wanted a few last hours with my mommy. I thought that somehow, you’d miraculously come back from it, but I watched you slip over to the other side. I’m just glad you waited for me to get there before you went.

Being Somebody's Brittany
I have worked from the inside out with mental health. I was once a juvenile patient four different times between the ages of fourteen to seventeen years old. All for suicidal thoughts and attempts. Between the ages of nineteen and twenty years old, I had three more visits to psychiatric hospitals before it seemed like my brain snapped itself into place and I could magically handle life without being psychiatrically inpatient at a mental health facility.

"Everyone has their own way to define things. Some definitions come from different sources, such as the bible, or a dictionary. There are some words that people dumb-down to make it simpler for those who are considered not as smart. There are many words that the meaning has been changed over the years to suit the world today. There are a few words that have multiple meanings. But there are two that hold should hold a special place, but are often overlooked. Survivor. Victim. It seems simply impossible to define survivor without victim.
