The Quiet Space
“Doctor, what is the prognosis?” A somber scene took place at Parkview Methodist Hospital. A young man in his twenties stood near the curtain in a rumpled Adidas tracksuit. He was asking about his father, comatose and on life support behind him in an ICU bed and hospital-issue gown. The tired-eyed doctor, with a furrowed brow gave him a response somewhere between realistic and pessimistic.

Three Eighty At Three A.M
Ten years gives a man a long time to think, especially on Texas’ death row. I never thought I would end up in Livingston for something other than a lake trip. Yet, here I am, just mere hours away from being euthanized by the state. When I was a kid, I used to have dreams where I would fall out of the sky. I would never hit the ground, though. I would wake up just in time to avoid the sudden impact at the end of the vertical journey. Of course, while I wish I could just wake myself up out of prison, I must come to terms with the fact that I’m about to fall into a permanent sleep. While I’m at it, I guess I should ask myself, what happened to me? What was the chain of events that led to me sitting here in prison garb, on a cot that works better as a bulletin board?

The Art of the Written Word
There are two things I absolutely love about the idea of art. The first being it embodies the principle of speaking profoundly and in volume. Art can say what men cannot in regular speech. The second thing I love about art is that it takes on many forms. Art is not confined to the canvas or the stone block; music, literature, dance are just a few examples of the omnipresence of art. I personally choose the written word as my medium, using Microsoft Word as my canvas, my mind as the palette, and my hands as the brush. The process in of itself is an adventure. Specifically, fleshing out and breathing life into a parallel reality---all composed in a word document!
