Heart of the Machine
What does it mean to care? How, in a face-less digital world can a medium simulate the thoughts and feelings only conveyed between two individuals face-to-face? Is it possible? Should it be? Questions such as these are what I believe the video game company Quantic Dream and creator David Cage tried to answer in their recent work Detroit: Become Human. Critics have given it mixed reviews, as is the trend for Quantic's IPs but the inquiry of gameplay value or graphics pixelation isn't what drove me to truly value the game itself. For Whom the 'Anthem' Tolls
Let's begin with some nostalgia. It's June 2006, you're a pimply-faced teenager fresh into the summer vacation and you're hyped about this year's E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo). Once the convention begins, every major publisher of AAA gaming announces their flagship title, and as you're already ecstatic nerves absorb all of the video game glee of hearing names like Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, Gears of War, and Mass Effect, you think this is the meaning of being a part of this community, a community of dreamers.

The Wonder in 'Wonder Woman'
Wonder Woman. A name that holds the provocative power of inspiration and awe. And thankfully the film adaptation with the same branded misnomer was able to evoke that same set of emotional gravitas I'd wished (and believed) the DC Extended Universe had inside it all along. And wow, what a breath of fresh air Wonder Woman was. Like its namesake, the film had an attraction that merited a wonder at how such a refreshing product found its way among the dry hardboiledness of the DCEU. Having all the hallmarks of the heroes' journey, the origin of WW is given believable life via the experienced acting performances of Robin Wright and Chris Pine, with a stream of fresh (and necessary!) blood by Gal Gadot as the titular character and a sans-Snieder directing quality by Patty Jenkins.
