Florida's Grayton Beach State Park #30A
If I was making a list of the most beautiful things on the planet, somewhere between my kids and pizza would be the state parks of Florida's South Walton County. The coastal dunes, the mix of freshwater and saltwater, the forests and hiking trails, it is just the perfect combination of different environments. A little bit of everything, as long as you aren't looking for mountains I suppose.

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park in Santa Rosa Beach Florida
Northwest Florida, and in particular South Walton County, is a haven of breathtaking state parks, making the beaches SoWal is famous for only one of the must visit stops for outdoors fanatics. Right off of the western portion of Country Road 30A, Topsail Hill Preserve State Park is one of many locales for folks to explore and enjoy. However, us modern people aren't the only ones who enjoyed this natural wonder, as scientists have found plenty of evidence that Native American's used this land for fishing, hunting and camping. Between the freshwater dune lakes, the Choctawhatchee Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, there is a plethora of available foods and natural resources in the waters alone, and that doesn't even take what can be found on land into account.

Restaurant Review: Shades Bar & Grill
Shades Bar & Grill is a perfect example of how nearly aspect of life is better alongside Florida's Emerald Coast, especially on and near the varied communities of 30A. Here, even the burger stands and bars could stand up against the fanciest of fine dining establishments found in many other cities across the U.S., and there is no finer example of that than Shades Bar & Grill. That is because Shades is the type of place to host nightly chef specials which never fail to disappoint. It is a restaurant where even the most stereotypical of American meals are given the care, flavor and finesse to transform them from something average to something you will definitely be craving for many years to come. For foodies like myself, Shades is just as memorable as 30A's sunny days that people come the world over to experience.

Emerald Coast Italian Food Wars Part 1: Pazzo's
Destin and Santa Rosa Beach are known for their exceptional eateries, and this is due partly to Pazzo's, one of the finest Italian food providers along Florida's Emerald Coast. In fact, there's a wonderful quote from famed cookbook author Marcella Hazan on the top of their website which perfectly sums up how they feel about their cuisine.

The Pizzerias of 30A
Is it Italian food, or is it American cuisine? I’ve heard people debate that very question for years and years, but the only thing I know for certain is this: pizza is hot, circular deliciousness, while cold leftover pizza is a highly sought after meal for lazy youth and busy adults alike. With as many regional styles of pie as there are, from New York to St. Louis to Chicago to Detroit and more, pizza isn’t just one the most popular dishes in the USA, but it is a highly personal one as well. Just like the beach views, the pizzerias on and near 30A are beyond reproach. If you’re planning on coming to the area and need to figure out where to get a slice, the following blog will have you covered.

30A’s New Urbanist Foundation
"The building of cities is one of man's greatest achievements" - Edmund Bacon One part design movement, one part principled philosophy, New Urbanism is as much of 30A as emerald waters, sugar white sands and bright, sunny days. A new age way of thinking, born ironically from inspiration of city building and design techniques which were prevalent pre World War Two, a New Urbanist landscape is a place that is one with its natural surroundings. While many cities, towns and villages are developed despite its habitat, or rather, built against the terrain native to the land, a city designed under New Urbanist ideals instead constructs its buildings in harmony with nature. This belief system extends from the design, architecture, and actual placement of structures to the layout of public spaces and everything in-between.
